Washington is led by a great offense

The Capitals are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.18 goals per game with 12 goals in the last three games. Tom Wilson and Alexander Ovechkin have scored 44 goals and 49 assists while Aleksei Protas and Dylan Strome have combined for 34 goals and 47 assists to add depth to the forward unit.

The offense has carried them but the defense has also stepped up, allowing only 2.95 goals per game. Jakob Chychrun and John Carlson have combined for 7.3 defensive point shares while Matt Roy and Martin Fehervary have combined for 5.7 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. The hope is that Garin Bjorklund impresses in his debut as the pileup of injuries in the goal indicates that he will start the upcoming game.

Key injury report for Capitals

  • Logan Thompson is on injured reserve. Is the starting goaltender.
  • Charlie Lindgren is on injured reserve. Is the backup goaltender.

Flyers are let down by their defense

The Flyers are falling apart heading into the break with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.91 goals per game. Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras have combined for 42 goals and 57 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only seven active skaters have eight goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Flyers down, allowing 3.20 goals per game with 18 goals in the last four games. Travis Sanheim and Cam York have combined for 5.2 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net. The bright spot has been the play of goaltender Dan Vladar, who has allowed only nine goals in his last three starts.

Capitals vs Flyers Pick

Money Line Pick For Capitals vs Flyers

  • Capitals (+110) (4 units)

The Flyers have fallen apart and I see the Capitals stepping up and taking over this game on the road. The Capitals, who average 3.18 goals per game, should pile on the goals with Tom Wilson, Alexander Ovechkin, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Capitals should eliminate a Flyers offense that averages only 2.91 goals per game, with John Carlson, Jakob Chychrun, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Garin Bjurklund to make plenty of big saves. The Capitals should win the game with a strong performance on the road.

Take the Capitals money line as road Underdogs.

Over/Under Pick For Capitals vs Flyers

  • Over 6 (5 Units)

The Capitals are led by a great offense, and I see this game being a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Flyers should create plenty of scoring chances with Travis Konecny, Trevor Zegras, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Capitals, who have scored 12 goals in the last three games, should run up the score against the Flyers, who have allowed 18 goals in the last four games, with Tom Wilson, Dylan Strome, Alexander Ovechkin, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with effective puck movement to overwhelm the Flyers defense. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6 goals.
