Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Saturday August 29 2026

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest picks for Saturday, August 29, 2026 bring Andoni Iraola to Anfield for his first competitive home league match as Liverpool manager. Liverpool drew 2-2 at Newcastle despite creating a huge volume of high-quality chances, while Forest lost 1-0 at home to Leeds. The Reds are expensive on the moneyline, so the more useful betting decision is whether their attacking advantage is strong enough to support a one-goal handicap. Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Preview

Liverpool's 2-2 draw at Newcastle looked frustrating on the scoreboard, but the underlying attack was excellent. The Reds generated roughly 3.64 expected goals while allowing 1.27. That is exactly the kind of Week 1 result that should not be judged only by the final score.

Forest's opener was much quieter. Oliver Glasner's side created only about 0.75 xG in the 1-0 home loss to Leeds, and now they face a Liverpool team whose pressing and direct attacking style under Iraola should be more aggressive at Anfield.

The most important early trend is Liverpool's chance creation. Producing more than three expected goals away from home while failing to win is usually a sign of finishing variance rather than a structural attacking problem.

Forest's road assignment is much harder than their opener. They can be dangerous when Morgan Gibbs-White receives between the lines and when wingbacks can advance, but Liverpool should force them to defend deeper and for longer.

Odds and Line Movement

Liverpool are currently -185 on the 1X2 market, with the draw +350 and Forest +450. Earlier Aug. 26 comparison boards showed Liverpool around -213 to -220, while the current coherent snapshot is -185. Because the sources differ, that is not verified formal movement, but the current price is clearly more favorable than those earlier reference boards.

The handicap market lists Liverpool -1 at -125. That price is preferable to the -185 moneyline because a one-goal win returns the stake, while a two-goal win cashes the wager.

Tactical and Personnel Matchup

Liverpool are still thin in attack. Federico Chiesa is unavailable with a small muscle injury, Hugo Ekitike remains sidelined and Conor Bradley is among the longer-term absences. Iraola has also been public about wanting another winger as the club continues its post-Salah rebuild.

Even with those absences, Alexander Isak gives Liverpool a high-level central reference point, and Cody Gakpo plus the younger attackers can threaten space around him. Forest's challenge is surviving Liverpool's first wave of pressure without giving away short-field attacks.

Forest have their own questions. Nicolo Savona is out, while Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Ryan Yates have been listed as doubts. If Gibbs-White is limited or unavailable, Forest lose their most important connector between midfield and attack.

What Will Decide the Match

Liverpool's ability to turn pressure into an early goal will shape the entire match. Forest can stay compact if the score remains level, but falling behind forces Glasner's side to open up and gives Liverpool more transition space.

Forest's best route is to break the first press and attack the channels outside Liverpool's center-backs. The Reds are still rebuilding defensively after major summer turnover, so there is a path to chances if Forest can escape pressure cleanly.

Expected Match Script

Liverpool should spend more time in the attacking third and create the larger chance volume. Forest will try to make the game physical and congested, but the home side's forward movement should eventually produce separation.

The -1 line is attractive because Liverpool do not need a rout. A two-goal win is enough, while a single-goal victory only pushes.

One additional factor favors Liverpool late in the match: Forest may have to spend long stretches defending their box if the Reds' press keeps recycling possession. That can wear on a side already dealing with midfield availability questions and make the second goal more likely after halftime.

Best Bet - Liverpool -1 (-125)

Liverpool -1 at -125 is the best bet. The Week 1 attack was much better than the 2-2 result suggests, and Forest's opener did not show enough attacking threat to make the big underdog especially appealing.

The risk is Liverpool's defensive transition game, particularly with the squad still being reshaped. But at Anfield, with Forest potentially missing important midfield pieces, the home side should have enough pressure to win by multiple goals.

Prediction: Liverpool 2, Nottingham Forest 0
