Lynx readying for a run for the title
The Minnesota Lynx are preparing for what they hope will be a redemption tour in this year’s WNBA playoffs after reaching game five in last year’s finals before falling to the eventual champion, the New York Liberty. They come into this matchup with a record of 33-9 and are assured of homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. They have gone 6-4 in their last ten games, including a 78-72 win over the Valkyries in San Francisco on Saturday night. Natisha Heideman led the way with a career-high 24 points.
The Lynx have been on a mission all season since feeling robbed of the title in 2024 due to what they believed was poor refereeing in game five. They should be at full strength when the playoffs start, including All-Star Napheesa Collier. The Lynx will finish the season first in most major offensive categories, including points per game, field goal shooting, and three-point shooting. On the defensive end, they are second in points allowed per game. They are fourth in field goal defense and eighth in 3-point defense. The Lynx are first in the WNBA in scoring margin, fifth in rebounding margin, and 12th in turnover margin.
Key Injuries: F Napheesa Collier and G DiJonai Carrington are out.
Fever clinch a playoff spot
The Indiana Fever, despite having five players gone due to season-ending injury, clinched at least the 7th spot in the WNBA playoffs with a win on Sunday over the Washington Mystics, 94-65. Natasha Howard’s team-high 17 points led the Fever. Indiana led by seven points at the half, but dug in defensively in the second half. They outscored the Mystics 49-27 in the second half, holding them to just nine points in the third quarter. The Fever forced 22 turnovers in the game and committed just six.
The Fever still have a chance to earn the sixth spot in the WNBA playoffs with a win here to wrap up the season and a loss by the Valkyries in one of their final two games. They are 23-20 overall this season, including 12-9 at home. They have lost both matchups with the Lynx this season. The Fever come into this game ranked third in the WNBA in points per game. They are also third in field goal shooting overall and 3-point field goal shooting. Defensively, they are eighth in points allowed per game. The Fever are 10th in field goal defense and seventh in 3-point defense. The Fever are fifth in scoring margin in the WNBA, sixth in rebounding margin, and 10th in turnover margin.
Key Injuries: G Caitlin Clark, F Chloe Bibby, G Sophie Cunningham, G Sydney Colson, and G Aari McDonald are out.
Lynx at Fever Pick
Point Spread pick for Fever
- Fever +6.5 (4 units)
The Fever continue to find ways to win this season, despite the loss of several key players, most notably All-Star Caitlin Clark. They are depleted at the guard spot, losing scoring with Clark out, and tenacity and edge with the loss of Sophie Cunningham. In this one, however, they are the only team that has something to play for. The Lynx have locked up the #1 seed in the playoffs and don’t have any incentive to play key players on Tuesday night. The Fever do have incentive, still with a shot at the sixth seed. That could mean they avoid the red-hot Las Vegas Aces in the first round. Look for the Fever to come up big in this one.
Take Indiana +6.5
Over/Under Pick for Lynx at Fever
- Over 164.5
Both of the previous games between these two teams went well over this number. These are two teams that are in the top three in the league, both in scoring and in field goal shooting. The Fever have done so without key players for several games. Expect this game to have limited defensive intensity, certainly by the Lynx, and both offenses to get good looks. This one will go over the number.
Take the over.
