Storm vs Tempo Key Matchups and Handicap

Seattle and Toronto meet Wednesday night with the Tempo listed as 3.5-point home favorites and the total sitting at 167.5, but the matchup is complicated by injuries and a very small early-season sample. Seattle is 1-1 and has been the more productive offense so far, averaging 84.5 points per game on 43% shooting, while Toronto is 0-1 after a 68-65 home loss to Washington in which the Tempo shot just 27% from the field and 20% from three.

Toronto's offensive ceiling still runs through Marina Mabrey, who led the team at 27 points and 7 rebounds in the opener, but asking one scorer to carry a team laying points is risky, especially with Isabelle Harrison out due to a hand injury and Temi Fagbenle listed as a game-time decision with a shoulder issue. If Fagbenle is limited or unavailable, Toronto loses size and interior stability against a Seattle team already holding advantages in scoring, assists, blocks and field-goal percentage.

The Storm are not fully healthy either, and their injury report is significant: Taina Mair, Katie Lou Samuelson, Awa Fam and Ezi Magbegor are all out, with Magbegor's absence especially important because it removes a high-impact frontcourt defender and rebounder. Even so, Seattle still has useful production through Flaujae Johnson, averaging 14.0 points, Dominique Malonga, averaging 7.5 rebounds, and Jade Melbourne, averaging 4.5 assists.

The Storm also enter with stronger team metrics, averaging 15.0 assists and 6.5 blocks compared to Toronto's 10.0 assists and 2.0 blocks, though the Tempo have been more disruptive defensively with 10.0 steals in their lone game. The biggest betting question is pace and efficiency. Toronto allowed only 68 points in its opener, but that game still featured 133 total points because both teams struggled to shoot. Seattle's defense has allowed 86.5 points per game, so Toronto should improve offensively, but the Tempo's poor finishing and injury concerns make it hard to justify laying more than a possession.

  • Seattle is 1-1 to start the season, averaging 84.5 points per game on 43% shooting.
  • Toronto is 0-1 after dropping a 68-65 home contest to Washington while shooting just 27% from the field and 20% from three.
  • Seattle holds the team edge in assists at 15.0 per game versus Toronto's 10.0.
  • The Storm have averaged 6.5 blocks per game compared to just 2.0 for the Tempo.
  • Toronto has been the more disruptive defensive team with 10.0 steals in its lone outing.
  • Public money has leaned heavily to the OVER, with 75% of bets and 66% of handle on the OVER in the most recent ticket counts.

SEA and TOR Key Injuries and Notes

  • Isabelle Harrison is out for Toronto with a hand injury.
  • Temi Fagbenle is listed as a game-time decision for the Tempo with a shoulder issue, threatening Toronto's interior size.
  • Marina Mabrey carries Toronto's offensive load after scoring 27 points with 7 rebounds in the opener.
  • Taina Mair is out for Seattle.
  • Katie Lou Samuelson is out for the Storm.
  • Awa Fam is out for Seattle.
  • Ezi Magbegor is out, removing a high-impact frontcourt defender and rebounder from the Storm rotation.
  • Flaujae Johnson (14.0 PPG), Dominique Malonga (7.5 RPG) and Jade Melbourne (4.5 APG) headline Seattle's available production.

Storm vs Tempo ATS and Total Picks

  • Spread Pick: Seattle +3.5
  • Total Pick: Under 167.5

The better angle is Seattle +3.5, with the Storm's offensive balance and statistical profile giving them enough to stay inside the number against a Toronto team that just shot 27% from the field. The total at 167.5 looks high given Toronto's early offensive issues and frontcourt injuries on both sides, so the under is the play here as well.

Final Score Prediction

Toronto 82, Seattle 80

Expect Mabrey to lead Toronto's offensive turnaround at home, but the combination of Seattle's superior assist and block numbers, Toronto's frontcourt injury concerns, and the Storm's available offensive options should keep this a one-possession game. The number lands in a spot where Seattle covers the 3.5 even if Toronto squeaks out the win, and both teams' shooting limitations send the total under.
