Detroit Wins Big in Opener

The Detroit Tigers set the tone in the first game of this Interleague series by winning 9-1 on Monday. They scored the first nine runs of the game, all within the first five innings. Detroit is hot, as they have won every series this season except for their opener against the Dodgers. This brings them to a 10-6 record, 1.5 games ahead of the Guardians in second early in the season. In Monday's game, Kerry Carpenter homered in the fifth inning to make their lead insurmountable.

The power hitters for the Tigers have not disappointed this season, as two Tigers already have five home runs on the season. Carpenter just hit his fifth on Monday, giving the outfielder 10 RBIs so far on the year. He has been batting sixth in the lineup and has alternated between left and right field. Spencer Torkleson also has five homers, he bats cleanup as their first baseman and leads the team with 12 RBIs. Torkleson is still just 25 years old and is batting .288 at the plate. Riley Greene has added another three home runs, but sat out the first game of this series due to rest. He is not listed on the injury report, so he should be available for this game.

Reese Olson will make his fourth start of the season for the Tigers as a 25-year-old right-hander. He has a 1-1 record, and the team has gone 2-1 overall in his starts. His ERA is up at 6.00 and has given up at least two earned runs in each of his starts. In his last outing, he pitched just 4.1 innings, giving up four earned runs against Minnesota. (edit: The Tigers will start Keider Montero, who is making his first appearance since last season).

Brewers Drop Three Straight

The Milwaukee Brewers need a turnaround quick, as they have lost their last three games going into Tuesday's matchup with Detroit. They lost their last two on the road against the Diamondbacks, then fell to Tarik Skubal and the Tigers in the first game of this series. They have now fallen to 4th in the NL Central, but are still just two games behind the Cubs who lead the division. In Monday's game, their only run came late in the 9th when the game was already decided, coming as an RBI single from Joey Ortiz.

Jackson Chourio has joined his opponents in the five-home run club, as he leads the team in long balls and also in RBIs with 17. The 21-year-old prospect is batting a solid .289 at the plate in his second full season with the Brewers. Chourio bats leadoff for the Brewers while playing left field. Brice Turang leads the team in hits with 22, the second baseman also added three home runs and 10 RBIs with a strong .333 batting average over 66 at bats. Turang batted ninth in the order on Monday. William Contreras has been their starting catcher for the last two seasons, he has another three home runs and 10 RBIs while batting .228. Contreras has been batting third, with Rhys Hoskins taking the cleanup spot.

Jose Quintana will make his second start of the season as a 36-year-old left-hander. He pitched well in his first outing, lasting 7.0 innings and giving up just four hits while holding the Diamondbacks scoreless. Quintana was a starter last season for the Mets and finished with a 3.75 ERA.

The Brewers will turn things around in this game, especially considering they have the better pitcher on the mound. Quintana was excellent in his first start for the Brewers, he pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball, only giving up four hits along the way. His ERA has been 3.75 or under for the past four seasons and will take control of this game early. The Brewers have a winning record at home this season and will send home the Tigers with a loss in this afternoon matchup.

Take the Brewers on the moneyline.

Reese Olson is on the mound for Detroit, and he has been one of their worst starters this season. His ERA is up at 6.00, as he gave up at least two earned runs in every start so far this year. He has not shown an ability to dominate a lineup and will struggle against this Brewers' lineup that has their best bats healthy. Chourio is an up-and-coming star for the Brewers, he has had a hit in all but one of his games this season and will put the pressure on Olson as he has been batting leadoff lately. Quintana starts for the Brewers, he was excellent in his opening game, but he will have to prove he can keep it going as a 36-year old on his eighth team. The first game of this series went over the total, and so will the last one.

Take the over.
