Two of the hottest teams in the MLB will face off in a two-game series that begins on Monday night. Los Angeles has the best record in baseball at 13-3, but it is coming off a 5-2 loss to the Padres on Sunday. Seattle is off to a 10-6 start and picked up a win over Houston in its series finale.

Dodgers looking to avoid consecutive losses

Los Angeles entered the season with one of the highest Vegas win totals in MLB history. The Dodgers have matched expectations thus far, racing out to a 13-3 record through the first few weeks. They had their eight-game winning streak snapped in a 5-2 loss to San Diego on Sunday, but they have still won all five of their series’ this season. Los Angeles ranks third in the MLB with a team batting average of .271. It is second in home runs with 21 and is tied for first in total runs (88) with Cincinnati. Third baseman Justin Turner has a team-high 23 hits and is batting a scorching .404.

Shortstop Corey Seager has 17 hits while first baseman Max Muncy has added 16 base knocks. Right fielder Cody Bellinger is currently sidelined with an injury and he will miss Monday’s contest. Seattle comes into this series at No. 17 in the MLB in team ERA at 4.34. Right-handed pitcher Dustin May will make the start for the Dodgers on Monday. He threw six scoreless innings in his season debut against the Athletics before giving up two runs across 4.1 innings against Colorado last Wednesday. May was on eight days’ rest in that start, but this will be a standard five-day rest period.

Mariners continue winning close games

Seattle got off to a 3-4 start this season, but it has been one of the winningest teams in baseball since then. The Mariners took two out of three from Minnesota, won three of four with Baltimore and then took two out of three against Houston over the weekend. They wrapped up the series with a 7-2 win over the Astros on Sunday. This will be the fourth game of a five-game homestand that proceeds an eight-game road trip. Seattle’s offense has not been particularly explosive, listed at No. 17 in the MLB with a team batting average of .230.

Right fielder Mitch Haniger leads the team with 22 hits, including four home runs. He has driven in 14 runs and is batting .338 through 16 games. Third baseman Ty France has 18 hits while infielder Kyle Seager has added 15. Center fielder Kyle Lewis is out with a right knee injury and will not be available until later in the month. Left-handed pitcher Justus Sheffield is going to make the start for Seattle on Monday. He was hit hard in his first outing, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings against the White Sox. Sheffield bounced back with 6.0 innings of two-run baseball in his last start.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Los Angeles has won by at least two runs in 11 of its 13 victories this season. The Dodgers have the deadliest lineup in the MLB and has bounced back nicely from each of their previous two losses. They are facing a Seattle team that has a nice record, but its metrics are not appealing. The Mariners are below average offensively and on the mound. Sheffield was blown up by the White Sox and now he has to face a lineup that gives opposing pitchers zero breaks. Seattle has been winning close games, but this won’t be one of them.

Prediction: Los Angeles -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Sheffield is going to give up at least three or four runs in the first few innings on Monday, which makes the over an appealing play. He has gone over in four of his last five starts on standard rest. May was not particularly sharp in his last outing and Seattle enters this series with a lot of confidence at the dish. The Mariners have gone over in four of their last five games to open a series. This is a very low total considering one of the best lineups in MLB history is taking part in the game. The Dodgers will be motivated to bounce back after Sunday’s loss.

Prediction: Over 8
