The Pittsburgh Pirates will host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first game of a four-game series starting Monday night from PNC Park. The Diamondbacks will send 28-year old right-hander Zack Godley to the mound, and the Pirates will counter with 26-year old right-hander Joe Musgrove. The Diamondbacks posted a 6-1 record against the Pirates last season.
Godley Rebounds with Strong Performance against Braves
The Diamondbacks will have Zack Godley on the mound in this contest. Godley was solid in his previous start, limiting the Braves to only two runs in six innings, resulting in a no-decision in a game the Diamondbacks won. The four-year veteran was hit hard in two of his four starts this season, and he holds a terrible 6.26 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP to go along with a 1-1 record in 28 innings logged on the season. He hasn’t seen a whole lot of the Pirates in his career, allowing seven runs (six earned) in 14 innings. Francisco Cervelli is 1 for 6 against Godley, while Colin Moran is 0 for 2, and Josh Bell is 0 for 3.

Adam Jones is one of the hottest hitters in the Diamondbacks lineup right now, driving in six runs in his last seven games, and he features a .373 OBP this month. The 33-year old center fielder is in his first season with Arizona after spending the last 11 seasons in Baltimore. Jones is hitting .298 with five homers and 13 RBI’s on the season. Arizona continues to play without slugger Jake Lamb who is on the IL.
The Diamondbacks are swinging the bats well, and they stand 10th in the Majors with an average of 5.24 runs per game. The Arizona pitching staff holds a poor 4.75 team ERA, pegging them down at 22nd overall. The D-Backs own a 7-5 road record heading into Sunday’s action.
Musgrove’s Hot Start Continues
Joe Musgrove will be on the mound for the fifth time of the season, aiming for his fourth consecutive Quality Start. Musgrove was outstanding once again in his latest effort, holding the Tigers to only two runs in seven innings, resulting in a no-decision in a 5-3 Pirates victory. The fourth-year right-hander did not allow a single run in his first three outings, and he enters this one with a dazzling 0.81 ERA and a 0.76 WHIP paired with a 1-1 record in 22.1 innings pitched. He squandered eight runs (seven earned) in 10 innings against the D-Backs in 2018, and he has conceded a total of eight runs in 11.1 career innings against Arizona.

Josh Bell continues to make his presence felt at the plate, notching at least one base hit in all but five games this season. The 26-year old first baseman has driven in four runs in his last seven games, and he is hitting .302 with three homers and 13 RBI’s on the season. Bell was productive against the D-Backs last season, hitting a sharp .381 with three RBI’s in 21 at bats. The Pirates continue to play without Starling Marte, Corey Dickerson, and Gregory Polanco.
The Pirates are only averaging 3.67 runs per game on the season, ranking them down at 24th in the big leagues. The Pittsburgh pitching staff continues to excel, carrying a Major League-best 2.55 team ERA. Pittsburgh stands at 6-2 at PNC Park heading into Sunday’s action.
