Orioles Continue Disappointing Road Trip

The Orioles will send Kyle Gibson to the mound in this one. Gibson has only made two starts due to injury. He gave up nine runs in his first outing. He was subpar in his previous outing, conceding three runs in four innings against the Royals, resulting in a no-decision. Gibson has conceded 12 runs in 7.2 innings this season. Has struggled against the Angels in his career, yielding a 5.83 ERA and a 4-5 record in 83.1 innings.

The Baltimore Orioles are having a disappointing season. They have not met expectations at the plate, and the pitching has been a glaring weakness, although injuries are playing a part. The Orioles dropped a series against the Royals last weekend and dealt an ugly road sweep by Minnesota this week. The bats only managed five runs while the pitching continues its struggle, yielding five or more runs in all three defeats.

Gunnar Henderson has not been nearly as threatening as last season. The 23-year-old shortstop only has three home runs with five RBIs and a weak .698 OPS. Henderson was dominant against the Angels last season, knocking in nine runs with a dazzling 1.6 OPS. Jackson Holliday was the #1 prospect in the big leagues last season. The 21-year-old second baseman has 11 RBIs and a .737 OPS. Ryan Mountcastle only has 11 RBIs and a .566 OPS.

Baltimore is averaging 3.70 runs per game, ranking them 24th. The Orioles' pitching staff has a 5.50 ERA, pegging them 29th.

Angels Rebound with Series Win

The Angels will have Jack Kochanowicz on the mound on Saturday evening. Kochanowicz was pelted in his previous effort, conceding five runs in five innings against the Tigers, and was charged with the defeat. The young pitcher has not been able to find any groove. He has squandered three or more runs in four of his past five outings and has recorded a 5.79 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP, accompanied by a 1-5 record in 37.1 innings on the season. This is Kochanowicz’s first meeting against the Blue Jays.

The Los Angeles Angels are struggling to win games primarily due to the pitching, including a horrid bullpen. They have dropped four of their past five series. This includes a series defeat by Detroit last weekend and rebounded with two wins in three home clashes against the Blue Jays this week. They scored 18 runs and conceded 15 runs.

Logan O’Hoppe has been one of the few positives this season for the Angels. The 25-year-old catcher has generated an .891 OPS early this month. He has nine big flies with 17 RBIs and an .860 OPS. O’Hoppe recorded three RBIs against the Orioles last year. Yoan Moncada is receiving playing time. The former White Sox slugger has two homers and eight RBIs. Mike Trout leads the squad in RBIs but is out with a hand injury.

Los Angeles is posting an average of 3.75 runs per game, marking them 25th. The pitching is struggling, yielding a 5.33 ERA, positioning them 26th.

Best Bets for Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Angels

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Baltimore Orioles are a desperate team. They are expected to be contenders and stand nine games below .500. They cannot afford to dip further in the standings.  The Los Angeles Angels continue to struggle and have dropped four of their past five series.

Furthermore, Orioles pitcher Kyle Gibson has only made two starts this season. He has yet to find a groove but is an experienced pitcher, while Angels pitcher Jack Kochanowicz lacks experience. Kochanowicz has been exploited. He posted a weak 5.81 ERA last month and just surrendered five runs in his previous outing. Kochonowicz is a righty, and the Orioles have a sharp  .758 OPS against righties this season. The Angels have lost in each of the past five outings by Kochanowicz.

Prediction: Baltimore Orioles -135

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I expect a barrage of scoring. Baltimore has been inconsistent at the plate, but this is a game where they should put crooked numbers on the board. The Angels have squandered an average of 6.8 runs in their past ten games and 30 runs in their past five home games.

In addition, the Orioles' pitching has been exploited. They have conceded five or more runs in five straight road games entering Friday, and Gibson has struggled in his two outings. The Orioles' bullpen is a glaring weakness, ranking 28th with a 5.36 ERA. The Angels' bullpen is rated 29th. The over is a convincing 8-2 in the Angels’ past ten games.

Prediction: Over 9.5
