Houston meets the Los Angeles Angels in the third game of a three-game series. Houston lost the first game on Monday, 2-1, but bounced back to take Game 2, 5-3 on Tuesday.
The Astros will send Justin Verlander to the mound, who is an early favorite to win the AL Cy Young. Verlander has been spectacular so far, going 4-2 with a minuscule 1.21 ERA. However, he’s winless over his last three starts (with an 0.90 ERA) after going 9-0 in his first 11 regular-season starts as a Houston Astros hurler.
The Angels started the season at 13-3 and are 12-14 since then. They’ll send right-hander Garrett Richards to the mound, who is 4-1 with a 4.08 ERA. He’s coming off his best start, throwing 6.2 scoreless innings against Seattle. In his last start against Houston, he allowed no runs in six innings on Sept. 22 of last season in a 3-0 loss.
Both pitchers are capable of throwing a shutout or at least going 6 or 7 scoreless innings. Houston is 12-3-1 Under their last 16 overall. The Angels are 6-2-1 Under their last 9 against the Astros and 5-1 Under their last 6 after a loss.
