Arizona Diamondbacks (18-16) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (21-12)

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers will play a four-game series played in three nights when these teams open with Game 1 on Monday. Arizona lost to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, dropping the club to 7-3 in their last 10 games as they have moved into fourth place in the NL West. Los Angeles looked like they were about to be swept in the four-game series against Philadelphia, but rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to snap a four-game losing streak. The Dodgers are 5-5 in their last 10 and are tied for first place in the NL West.

Los Angeles enters as the favorite at -235 with the line set for Arizona at +190. The Dodgers' odds change to -105 when giving up 1.5 runs, while the Diamondbacks are at -115 when receiving 1.5 runs. The total is set at 8.5 (over: -120, under: +100). The Diamondbacks took two of three when these teams played in Arizona April 25-27. The Dodgers are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these teams.

Cubs Win in Ninth

The Chicago Cubs scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to earn a 3-2 victory over Arizona on Sunday. The Diamondbacks gave up single runs over each of the first two innings, then scored two in the fourth to tie the score. Humberto Castellanos started, allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings. The bullpen was spectacular from there, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief before giving up the game-winning run.

Arizona finds itself on a roll, winning eight of its last 12 games. The club is getting solid pitching, allowing three or fewer runs in six of their last nine games. Left-hander Madison Bumgarner will try to keep the momentum going. The lefty is 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA. Bumgarner has allowed no more than one earned run in six of his seven appearances this season, but has allowed a home run in each of his last three appearances.

Arizona is 26th in scoring at 3.64 runs per game, thanks to a .204 batting average, 29th overall. They are ninth in home runs with 35. Christian Walker and Daulton Varsho each have six home runs with Varsho leading the club with 16 RBI. The Diamondbacks have struggled to reach base, 24th in baseball with a .291 OBP.

Dodgers Rally to Down Phillies

The Dodgers were on the verge of dropping all four games against Philadelphia over the weekend, but rallied by scoring a run of the eighth and two in the ninth to earn a 5-4 victory. Mookie Betts tied the score with an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth and Gavin Lux followed with a double to drive home Chris Taylor to give Los Angeles the win. The Dodgers are 2-5 in their last seven games, losing two of three to Pittsburgh and three of four to Philadelphia.

The Dodgers have had several injuries to the starting staff and are hoping that Tony Gonsolin can keep himself rolling. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA in six starts. He tossed five shutout innings in his last start and has three appearances this season where he has not been scored upon. Gonsolin has allowed one run in his last 10.0 innings.

The Dodgers are first in runs per game at 5.36. The Dodgers are 10th in batting average (.240) and second in on-base percentage (.328). Betts leads the club with seven homers and is third in RBI with 17. Freddie Freeman is cooling off, hitting .295, but is just 4-23 over his last seven games.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Time to go out on a limb here. Definitely take Arizona and the 1.5 runs, but they are very likely to win this game outright. The Diamondbacks are getting spectacular pitching right now and are rolling, even on the road where they are 5-1 in their last six games. They are sending Bumgarner to the hill, and he has been spectacular of late as well. The Dodgers have not been very good against lefties (.229) which helps the Diamondbacks even more.

The Dodgers are still statistically one of the best teams in baseball. However, they have hit a rut and are struggling to defeat teams they should roll over. The pitching staff is getting hammered lately, posting a 5.23 ERA over their last seven starts, as opponents have a 1.58 WHIP and a .291 batting average

Prediction: Take the Arizona Diamondbacks (+190)

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

This total is a head-scratcher. Bumgarner and Gonsolin have been two of the best starters in the National League this season, and expecting this high of a run total seems like a stretch. These teams have gone under in four straight meetings and Arizona has gone under in six of their last eight contests.

No doubt the Dodgers pitching staff is struggling. They were hammered for 33 runs in the four-game series against Philadelphia. However, the Phillies are the second-best hitting team in baseball and Arizona is far off that pace.

Take the Diamondbacks to win, 4-3.

Prediction: Go under 8.5 (+100)
