Seattle will wrap up a disappointing road trip on Sunday afternoon in Boston. The Red Sox picked up wins in the first three games of the series, including a 6-5 win on Saturday.

Mariners wrapping up 10-game road trip

Seattle got off to a nice start this season, going 11-6 through its first 17 games. The Mariners are trying to snap the longest playoff drought of any major professional sports team in the United States, so it was a welcomed start. However, they proceeded to lose 10 of their next 11 games to fall four games below the .500 mark. Seattle is wrapping up a 10-game road trip in which it went 3-6 through its first 9 games. The Mariners lost the first 3 games of this series by a combined 11 runs. They are No. 17 in the MLB in team batting average, hitting at a .234 clip.

First baseman Ty France leads the way with 53 hits and a .323 average. Second baseman Adam Frazier has 40 hits, while shortstop J.P. Crawford has 41 base knocks. Third baseman Eugenio Suarez has crushed a team-best seven home runs. He will be facing a Boston pitching staff that is No. 16 with a team ERA of 3.84. Right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert is going to start for Seattle on Sunday afternoon. He allowed three runs on six hits and two walks in a loss to Toronto his last time out. Gilbert allowed a three-run triple in the bottom of the second before settling in for his second quality start of the season. He has allowed 10 runs in 17 innings over his last three outings.

Eovaldi hoping to bounce back

Boston has finally started to turn its season around after a brutal start to the campaign. The Red Sox went 10-19 through their first 29 games, capped off by a five-game losing streak. They enter Sunday’s contest on a 4-game winning streak and have won 7 of their last 9 games. Boston took two out of three against Houston at home earlier this week before winning 3 games against Seattle. The Red Sox are in fourth place in the American League East, sitting 11.5 games back of division-leading New York. They rank No. 11 in the majors in team batting average (.244).

Third baseman Rafael Devers leads Boston with 56 hits, including 9 home runs. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts has 49 hits, while designated hitter J.D. Martinez has 45 hits. They are going up against a Seattle team that has an ERA of 4.20, which ranks No. 25 in the MLB. Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is in line to start for Boston on Sunday. He is coming off his worst start of the season, allowing nine runs on eight hits over just 1.2 innings against Houston. Eovaldi had a five-pitch first inning, but he allowed five home runs in the second. His ERA jumped more than a full run to 4.32.

Insiders Status:

Seattle is the type of lineup that you want to face after having a really bad start. Eovaldi was blasted by Houston his last time out, but he had been a solid starting pitcher prior to that blowout performance. He is going to be comfortable pitching at home and will be rested after throwing less than two full innings against the Astros. Seattle has been skidding for several weeks, which continued in the first two games of this series. Gilbert has not been good over his last three starts, allowing 10 runs. The Red Sox are also in the better scheduling spot, as Seattle is wrapping up a 10-game road trip.

Prediction: Boston -130

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

While I expect Eovaldi to have a bounce-back performance, I do not expect it to be anywhere close to a shutout day. The Mariners are capable of scoring several runs, but their pitching staff has not been able to hold up in this series—or at all this season. They have gone over the total in eight of their last nine games at Fenway Park, and these teams have cashed the over in five straight head-to-head meetings. Boston relies on its offense to win games, which makes the over an appealing wager in many of its games. I expect these teams to hit the over one more time to close this series.

Prediction: Over 9.5
