The New York Mets had a four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday against the Marlins, falling 5-1 at home. They’ll attempt to start another streak on Wednesday when they send Jacob deGrom against Dan Straily.
Straily has a 2-0 record with a 3.60 ERA for Miami this season. Straily pitched poorly early on in the season but on Friday, allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings at Atlanta. He posted a 1.76 ERA against the Mets in three starts last season.
DeGrom is 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA this season. In his last start, he gave up just one run and struck out 13 in seven innings against Arizona at home on May 18. He faced Miami on April 10, giving up four runs in six innings. He has a 4-4 record with a 3.94 ERA in 13 meetings against the Marlins.
Miami is a big dog against the Mets in this one. Straily is a pretty good pitcher and while deGrom is a very good starter, he has struggled in his career against the Marlins. Miami 5-0 in Straily’s last 5 starts and the Mets are 1-4 in deGrom’s last 5 starts vs. Miami.
