The Cleveland Indians take on the Kansas City Royals in the third of a four-game divisional series on Wednesday night. Indians’ ace Shane Bieber will get the nod aiming for his fourth win of the season. The Royals will counter with Brady Singer. The Indians lead the season series 3-1 including a victory in the first two games of this series.
Bieber Eyes Another Win vs. Royals
Shane Bieber will take the mound for the seventh time of the year on Wednesday. Bieber wasn’t quite at his best for his lofty standards last time out, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings against the White Sox, leading to a win to improve his record to 3-2. The former Cy Young winner is performing well, allowing three or fewer runs in each outing, and features a 2.76 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 42.1 innings pitched. Bieber held the Royals to only two runs in 6.1 innings in the lone meeting this season and features a 4-0 record and a 3.59 ERA in eight career starts against the division foes
The Tribe' are having trouble scoring runs with consistency remain very competitive thanks to their deep pitching staff. They have won two consecutive series against AL Central foes Minnesota and Chicago and stand at 3-1 on their current road trip.
Jordan Luplow has provided the Indians lineup with decent production. The 27-year old right fielder is only hitting .183 but has collected 15 RBI’s along with a solid .862 OPS. Luplow has four RBI’s in his last six clashes overall.
Cleveland ranks 17th in the Majors with an average of only 4.11 runs on the season. The Indians pitching staff is sporting a 3.90 team ERA, good for 13th overall.
Singer Dips to 1-3, Royals in First Place
Brady Singer will get the nod for the sixth time of the season in this one. Singer exited after allowing one run on three walks in two innings against the Twins with a heel injury last time out but is ready for this start. The young right-hander is having a very promising season, registering a 3.09 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP accompanied by a 1-3 record in 23.1 innings of action. He was terrific against the Indians last season, limiting them to only two runs in 13 innings to go with a 1-0 record.
The Royals continue to stand in the top spot in the AL Central entering Tuesday’s action. They lost two of three against the Twins before this series. The pitching has been effective recently while the offense continues to produce.
Whit Merrifield continues to thrive, recording another eight RBI’s in his last eight games. The 32-year old right fielder has tallied five RBI’s in three games against the Indians this season. Merrifield is hitting .269 with 21 RBI’s and a .749 OPS on the season.
KC is scoring an average of 4.67 runs per game, ranking them 11th overall. They enter with a 4.48 team ERA, placing them 22nd in the big leagues.
The Cleveland Indians are:
- 5-1 in Bieber's last 6 road starts against a team with a winning record.
- 10-2 in Bieber's last 12 starts overall against a team with a winning record.
- 6-2 in their last 8 games overall.
The Kansas City Royals are:
- 0-4 in Singer's last 4 home starts against a team with a winning record.
Best Bets for this Game
Full-Game Side Bet
It’s Shane Bieber on the mound for Cleveland. The ace continues to dominate his opponents and already held the Royals to just two runs in 6.1 innings in a 4-2 win last month. The reigning Cy Young winner pitches deeps into games, lasting at least six innings in each start.
Furthermore, the Indians are playing well, earning the victory in seven out of their last nine clashes overall as the pitching continues to dazzle. The Royals have not been as dangerous and are 2-5 in their last seven games. While their starter Brady Singer is solid, the bullpen ranks in the bottom five with a 5.07 ERA.
Full-Game Total Pick
This should be a pitchers’ duel. The total is always lower with Bieber on the mound and it has still been able to cash in four of his starts this season. The Royals have only managed 11 runs in their three games against the Indians entering Tuesday’s action. After Bieber, KC will be up against the Indians’ bullpen which is among the best in the Majors.
In addition, Cleveland is a low-scoring team and stands 22nd in the MLB with a .680 OPS. Brady Singer has contained them, allowing only two runs in 13 career innings. The under is 7-2 in the Indians' last nine road games against a right-handed starter.
Full-Game Prop Bet
The under on the Royals team total is a solid play. KC is in tough against Bieber who will last a minimum of six innings and probably more. After Bieber exits, they have to battle an Indians’ bullpen that features a stifling 2.70 ERA on the season. The Indians have allowed only a combined 19 runs in their last five games.
First Five Innings Prop Prediction
I am going with the under on the three-inning total. The Royals own a .667 OPS in innings 1-3 compared to an OPS over eight in the next three frames. The Indians’ lowest-scoring stretch occurs in the first three innings with only a combined 31 runs on the season.
