Cubs are 12-7 on the road this season

Chicago (22-16 SU, 20-18 RL, and 21-14-3 O/U) lost two of three games to San Francisco in its previous series. The Cubs are 5-5 in their last ten games.

Chicago will start right-hander Jameson Taillon on Friday night against New York. In his last outing, the 33-year-old allowed two runs and three hits with five strikeouts in six innings versus Milwaukee. He is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in seven starts (39.2 IP).

The Cubs have taken the early lead in the AL Central division race, compiling a 15-9 record in April. They enter this weekend's series with a 12-7 record on the road and a 14-8 record in night games. The North Siders made several notable investments during the offseason, adding star outfielder Kyle Tucker, veteran lefty starter Matthew Boyd, and veteran reliever Ryan Pressly. The result is a deeper and more playoff-ready ballclub that management hopes can compete for a division title and possibly more in 2025.

Chicago Cubs Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for tomorrow's game against the Mets.

New York hopes to build momentum this homestand

New York (24-14 SU, 21-17 RL, and 14-23-1 O/U) took two of three against Arizona earlier this week. The Mets are 4-6 in their last ten games.

New York will turn to righty Clay Holmes tomorrow against the Cubs. In his previous appearance, the 32-year-old held St. Louis to three runs and eight hits in a six-frame victory. He is 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in seven starts (36.2 IP).

The Metropolitans have raced out to the division lead in the NL East after compiling a 19-8 record last month. They are 13-3 at Citi Field and 14-7 in night games this season. In the offseason, New York was the talk of baseball, stealing slugger Juan Soto from the crosstown rival Yankees with a 15-year, $765 million contract, the biggest in MLB history. The team also re-signed 1B Pete Alonso, solidifying an already strong lineup. New York's bullpen is a strength (3.13 ERA and 1.19 WHIP this season), and the pitching staff is overachieving, as the unit has been lights out despite missing the injured Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas. In other words, the Mets appear primed to make another run at the postseason in 2025.

New York Mets Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries for Friday's game against Chicago.

Betting Trend: The under is 14-8-1 following a Mets win.

The weather forecasts precipitation and cooler temperatures for tomorrow night's game. With two reliable starters taking the mound and both teams rested after a day off, this game should be low-scoring. Taillon and Holmes have performed well this season and have solid career stats against Friday's competition. This is a battle between division leaders itching to win, as neither has been able to sustain momentum recently. New York has been dominant at home, while Chicago has the second-best road record in baseball.

These ballclubs will play a competitive, low-scoring game on Friday night in Queens!

Prediction: Under 8
