Atlanta Gets Swept in the Bay
The Atlanta Braves have had their share of ups and downs this season, they began last in the division, climbed up to third, but have now settled into fourth place after a tough stretch. Getting swept by the Giants in San Francisco did not help their spot in the standings, as they are now 14 games behind the Mets at the top, and 2.5 games behind the Nationals in third. In their last game against the Giants, Matt Olson had all three RBIs in the 4-3 loss.
Olson had a fielder's choice in the first inning, then later hit a two-run double in the 3rd inning, but it was not enough in the loss. He bats third in the lineup as their first baseman and leads the team with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs. The 31-year-old is in his fourth season with the Braves after starting his career with the Athletics. Austin Riley has the best batting average on the team at .279, he bats second in the lineup as their third baseman. Riley has 11 home runs and 35 RBIs, just trailing Olson in both categories. Ronald Acuna Jr. has made his return to the top of the lineup, he has played in just 15 games so far and has four home runs from the top of the lineup.
Grant Holmes will make his 13th start of the season for Atlanta as a 29-year-old right-hander. He has a 3-4 record, with the Braves losing in three of his last four starts. His ERA is 3.99 to go with 68 strikeouts to 29 walks. In his last appearance, Holmes gave up three earned runs in 3.1 innings in a loss to Arizona.
Brewers Lose Low Scoring Series
The Milwaukee Brewers just battled out a three-game series against the Padres, but lost two of those games as all three hit the under. The total tally in the three games was 6-4 in favor of the Padres, as the Brewers took another step back in the NL Central standings. They now sit in third place, 5.5 games behind the Cubs at the top, and just 1.5 games behind the Cardinals in second. In their last game against San Diego, they only had four hits and no runs in the shutout loss.
One of those hits came from their reliable catcher William Contreras, he was batting in the cleanup spot, but the team could not generate any runs off his hit. The 27-year-old will be playing his former team, as he spent three seasons with the Braves before coming over to Milwaukee. Contreras has five home runs and 26 RBIs to go with his .244 batting average. Rhys Hoskins also had a hit on Sunday, the long time Philadelphia Phillie is in his second season with the Brewers and has nine home runs and 36 RBIs on the year. Christian Yelich went 0-4 on Sunday, but he has still been their best power hitter this season with team highs of 13 home runs and 41 RBIs as the DH.
Quinn Priester will make his 8th start of the season and also has four other appearances out of the bullpen. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 3-2 record, with the team winning in three of his last four appearances. His ERA is 3.88 to go with 36 strikeouts and 26 walks. In his last outing, he came out of the bullpen to pitch five innings against the Reds while allowing just one earned run in the win.
Best Bets for Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Full-Game Side Bet
Insiders Status:
The Atlanta Braves have a roster full of recognizable names, but that has not mattered at all this season as they sit in fourth in the NL East and are struggling to get wins. Ronald Acuna Jr. returned to the lineup, but the team still got swept in San Francisco last time out. Holmes is on the mound for Atlanta, and he had to get pulled after just three innings as he did not have his best stuff while giving up three runs in a loss to the Diamondbacks. Quinn Priester is on the mound for the Brewers, the 24-year-old is a strong up and comer for the Brewers, and the team decided to work him more into the starting rotations after strong play. Over his last 11 innings he has given up just six hits and will be strong enough here to get a win over the struggling Braves.
Take the Brewers to win.
Full-Game Total Pick
Insiders Status:
The Brewers have been battling in some low scoring games recently, especially their recent series against the Padres where the teams combined to score only ten runs over the three games. Each team is sending out a starting pitcher with an ERA under 4.00, which will allow them to go deep into the game and limit runs. Priester has given up two of fewer runs in four of his last five starts for the Brewers, while Holmes also had a strong showing against San Diego recently where he pitched seven innings and only gave up one run. The Brewers have gone under in six of their last seven coming into this one.
Take the under.
