The Pittsburgh Pirates battle the Milwaukee Brewers in the first of a three-game series Friday night from American Family Field. The Pirates have Chase DeJong on the hill. The Brewers are playing well and send out the dominant Brandon Woodruff to begin the series. The Pirates won two of three over the Brewers in April.

DeJong Targets First Win, Pirates Swept by LA

The Pirates will have Chase De Jong on the hill for the third time of the season. De Jong was walloped in his latest effort, giving up five runs on seven hits in five innings against the Marlins and managed to escape with the no-decision in a game the Pirates won. The young right-hander was outstanding in his season debut a few weeks ago, limiting the Rockies to one run in five innings.

Pittsburgh is on the road after posting a 3-4 record on their homestand including a series win over Miami followed by a home sweep at the hands of the Dodgers. The Pirates only have 10 road wins all season.

Adam Frazier continues to dazzle, recording a .310 average with six RBI’s on the month. The 29-year old second baseman is always reaching base in the leadoff spot and is sporting a .329 average with 24 RBI’s and an .862 OPS. Frazier is a stellar 5 for 14 against the Brewers.

The Pirates are averaging a Major League worst 3.50 runs per game. The Pittsburgh pitching staff enters with a 4.65 team ERA, placing them 24th in the Major Leagues.

Woodruff Shines Again, Brewers Conclude Solid Road trip

Brandon Woodruff will take the mound for the 13th time of the season on Friday. Woodruff was effective last time out, limiting the Diamondbacks to only two runs in five innings, resulting in a no-decision in a game the Brewers won. The right-handed ace is having a Cy Young caliber season, registering a stifling 1.42 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP accompanied by a 4-2 record in 76 innings. He stands at 3-2 with a subpar 4.50 ERA in nine meetings against the Pirates.

Milwaukee is looking very threatening right now. They have won 11 out of their last 13 games overall and have catapulted to only 0.5 games out of first in the NL Central. They issued the four-game sweep over a bad D-Backs team and followed by a series win against the Reds.

Avisail Garcia is hot right now and leads the Brewers with 36 RBI’s. The 29-year old slugger has tallied 10 RBI’s in his last 10 games and has power, launching 12 taters along with a .779 OPS. Garcia is 4 for 11 with three RBI’s against the Pirates this season.

The Brew Crew is averaging 3.92 runs on the season, placing them down at 23rd in the big leagues. The Milwaukee pitching staff features a 3.66 team ERA, good for ninth overall.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

The price on this one is expensive which is why I recommend the run line. Milwaukee has won by two or more runs in each of Brandon Woodruff’s last four starts. Woodruff continues to dominate as the ace has conceded one or zero earned runs in all but three starts this season and Pittsburgh is the lowest-scoring team in the Majors.

Furthermore, the Brewers are playing well. They have won six out of their last seven games overall and the bats are finding a groove which makes this team very dangerous considering the pitching. They should plate several runs against DeJong who just surrendered five runs to the Marlins.

Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I expect a lower-scoring battle. The Pirates will be fortunate to score more than one run against Woodruff and they have to solve the Brewers solid 'pen after. The under has been the common trend with Woodruff on the hill.  The under is also 4-1 in his last five Friday starts.

In addition, while I expect enough offense to win this game decisively, Pittsburgh as a team has limited their opponent to four or fewer runs in four out of their last five clashes. The under is 4-1 in the Pirates’ last five games against a team with a winning record.

Prediction: Under 7.5

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The Pirates are going to be silenced at the plate. Milwaukee has allowed three or fewer total runs in five out of the last six games started by Woodruff. Pittsburgh ranks last in the Majors in OPS and home runs and Woodruff has only allowed four big flys all season.

Prediction: Pirates Team Total Under 2.5

First Five Innings Prop Prediction

Insiders Status:

I am selecting Brandon Woodruff to earn the win. Woodruff has been awarded the victory in two out of his last three starts. He will go deep into the game as he has logged more than seven frames in four out of his last five outings which gives plenty of time for the offense to provide him with runs.

Prediction: Brandon Woodruff to Record the Win
