The Boston Red Sox will begin a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park on Friday. Both teams also played games on Thursday night that were not yet complete at the time of this preview. The Red Sox went into Thursday night on a two-game skid after dropping back-to-back games against the Houston Astros. The Blue Jays upset the White Sox 6-2 on Wednesday.

Heading into this series, the Red Sox have taken three of the five head-to-head games against the Blue Jays this season.

Guerrero Jr worthy to be MVP

The Blue Jays are 31-28 on the season, fourth in the AL East. On the road, the Blue Jays are 18-15. The Blue Jays' powerful lineup has led the way, as collectively they are first with a .437 slugging percentage, fourth with 85 home runs, and sixth scoring 4.9 runs per game. Leading Toronto is MVP-candidate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a .330 AVG, 18 home runs, and 48 RBI.

Ross Stripling will start for Toronto on Friday. In nine games this year, Stripling is 2-3 with a 4.71 ERA. Stripling faced the Red Sox once this season and was rocked for six earned runs and three home runs in just 3 2/3 innings during a 7-3 loss on May 19.

Red Sox coming off series loss to Houston

The Red Sox are 37-25 on the season, second in the AL East division, and 17-15 at home. The Red Sox are the seventh highest-scoring team, averaging 4.9 runs per game, third with a .432 slugging percentage and .255 batting average. Xander Bogaerts leads the team with a .321 batting average, and Rafeael Devers has team-highs in 15 home runs and 48 RBI.

The Red Sox are scheduled to start Garret Richards on Friday, who is 4-4 with a 3.88 ERA and 1.52 WHIP on the season. Richards picked up the win against Toronto on May 19, allowing just two earned runs in six innings of the Red Sox 7-3 win.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

This should be a close game between two teams that can tear the cover off the ball. The Red Sox are a much better fielding team than Toronto, ranking 12th in MLB with 14 defensive runs saved this season, and Toronto is 25th with -10 defensive runs saved. The Red Sox bullpen has also been improving, now sixth in baseball with a 3.52 ERA, and the Blue Jays bullpen is 11th with 3.70 ERA. I give Boston a slight edge at home here,

Prediction: Boston Red Sox -117

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

There were 10 total runs scored when these two pitchers met each other last month. This time the game will be played at Fenway Park, where Richards has struggled with a 6.38 ERA in four starts. The Blue Jays starter Stripling has a 4.76 ERA in four-road starts this season and has given up a home run to active Red Sox hitters once every 9.6 at-bats. I love the over with both teams ranking in baseball's top three in batting average and slugging and an average pitching match-up.

Prediction: Over
