Chicago White Sox (22-44) vs. Houston Astros (36-29)

The 2025 Major League Baseball season goes on Wednesday, June 11, with the Chicago White Sox taking on the Houston Astros in the American League showdown at Daikin Park in Houston, TX, so here’s our White Sox vs. Astros prediction and the latest odds update.

Chicago and Houston continue their three-game series at Daikin Park, and Tuesday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. Last month, the White Sox beat the Astros in a three-game series in Chicago, sandwiching an 8-3 defeat with a 7-3 win in the opener and a 5-4 victory in the closer.

The White Sox are decent in June

The Chicago White Sox started the month of June with a 3-2 defeat at the Baltimore Orioles, extending their losing streak to four games. After that, the White Sox embarked on a seven-game homestand. They split a four-game series against the AL-best Detroit Tigers and took two out of three against the Kansas City Royals.

The White Sox are dead last in the American League. They rank 26th in the majors in runs scored (3.53 per game) and 19th in runs allowed (4.30). The White Sox are slashing .237/.316/.364 with 12 doubles, a triple, and six home runs in 235 at-bats this in June.

Sean Burke will take the mound at Daikin Park on Wednesday night. The 25-year-old right-hander is 3-6 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 11 starts and two relief appearances (67 innings pitched) this season. Burke did a good job in May, posting a 2.73 ERA and 4.25 FIP in 33 innings of work. Last Thursday, he tossed seven innings of a two-run, seven-hit ball in a no-decision against the Tigers.

Burke has never met the Astros before. He made his MLB debut on September 10, 2024. Burke has five pitches in his arsenal and throws a four-seamer 40% of the time. He’s in the 10th percentile in expected ERA and 19th percentile in barrel percentage this season.

The Astros aim for their third straight series W

The Houston Astros have done a great job over the last few weeks. They are undefeated in five consecutive series. During that stretch, the Astros took three out of four games against the Seattle Mariners, two out of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Guardians, swept a two-game set against the Athletics and split a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Houston hasn’t dropped consecutive games since May 21. The Astros are topping the AL West, three games ahead of the Mariners. They are 23rd in the MLB in runs scored (4.02 per game) and sixth in runs allowed (3.66), and over the last two weeks, the Astros have been slashing .233/.280/.387 with 14 doubles and 16 home runs in 403 at-bats.

Ryan Gusto is expected to get the starting call on Wednesday. The 26-year-old rookie righty carries a 3-3 record with a 4.78 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in eight starts and six relief appearances (43.1 IP) in 2025. Last Wednesday, Gusto was charged with a loss in a 3-0 defeat at the Pirates, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and two walks across 4.1 innings of work.

Gusto met the White Sox last month. He gave up three unearned runs on two hits and two walks while getting just two outs in relief.

Ryan Gusto pitched well in April (3.24 ERA in 25 IP) but struggled a lot in May (8.25 ERA in 12 IP). Over his last three starts, Gusto has recorded a 5.11 ERA and 5.26 FIP, so I’m backing the White Sox to keep it close in this game and beat the runline.

Sean Burke has been pitching well of late. The Astros are slashing just .193/.244/.287 with a 51 wRC+ against the righties in June, so Burke should give his team a chance. The White Sox have amassed a .236/.321/.355 triple-slash and a 91 wRC+ against the righties so far this month.

Of course, the Astros bullpen could easily make a difference. Houston’s relief pitching has been excellent all season, but the White Sox ‘pen has been decent this month, posting a 2-2 record with a save and a 3.97 ERA.

Prediction: Chicago White Sox +1.5 (-130)

The White Sox will look to score early. I mentioned how bad Ryan Gusto has been lately, and the White Sox have already seen him this season. But when the Astros bullpen takes over, the White Sox will be in trouble.

The Astros ‘pen boasts a 1.61 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and a .147 batting average against in June. Hereof, I’m going with the under. I expect Sean Burke to fare well in this matchup, given how badly the Astros have been hitting the righties over the last 10 days.

Prediction: Under 8.5 Runs (-110)
