Los Angeles' rotation is injury-riddled

Los Angeles (40-27 SU, 31-36 RL, and 39-28 O/U) won game one 8-7 in extra innings and dropped two of three against St. Louis in its previous series. The Dodgers are 5-5 in their last ten games (the over was 6-4).

LA will start left-hander Justin Wrobleski on Wednesday against San Diego. In his last outing, the 24-year-old surrendered four runs on six hits and three walks in a six-frame loss to the Cardinals. He is 1-2 with a 7.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP this season (15.0 IP), including 0-2 with a 9.82 ERA and 1.82 WHIP on the road (11.0 IP).

The Dodgers are fresh off a World Series title, but after several notable offseason acquisitions, the franchise is primed for a run at more championships. Los Angeles has the biggest payroll in baseball ($330 million), as the front office was more active than ever in free agency. The Dodgers have several talented arms in their starting rotation and a star-studded lineup capable of winning games on its own (2nd in wRC+). In other words, it's going to be tough to knock Los Angeles off its throne.

Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for tomorrow's game against the Padres.

Can Padres' Vásquez tame a more explosive offense?

San Diego (37-28 SU, 38-27 RL, and 26-37-2 O/U) won two of three games in its previous series against Milwaukee. The Padres are 5-5 in their last ten games (the under was 7-3).

SD will turn to righty Randy Vásquez tomorrow against LA. In his last outing, the third-year MLB pro held the Brewers scoreless with four walks and two hits in 4.2 innings. He is 3-4 with a 3.69 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 13 starts this year, including 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA and 1.44 WHIP at Petco Park (six starts).

San Diego treated its fans to an exciting 2024 season, making a deep run into the postseason and nearly upsetting eventual champion Los Angeles. While it wasn't the final result Friar Faithful hoped for, it was one of the most successful campaigns in franchise history. Unfortunately, the Padres have endured several injuries to their starting rotation this year, as Joe Musgrove (Tommy John), Yu Darvish (elbow), and Michael King (shoulder) are sidelined. Still, San Diego has been on Los Angeles' tail the entire season and isn't likely to fall too far behind.

San Diego Padres Baseball Injury Report: No recent injuries to report for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Wednesday's starting pitching matchup is unlikely to result in a pitcher's duel.

Vásquez has failed to last five innings in three of his last four starts and walked seven batters in his previous two starts. He's managed to keep most of his opponents from scoring four-plus runs, but I don't trust his below-average stuff with my money on the line against a star-studded Dodgers lineup that destroys right-handed pitching.

Wrobleski is a spot starter who's only making this outing due to several injuries to LA's rotation. He's allowed 12 runs in 15 MLB innings and had a 5.09 ERA in 40.2 innings at the AAA level in between those big-league appearances this year. Like Monday's series opener, I anticipate plenty of scoring in the first few innings of tomorrow's matinee finale.
