Texas Rangers (24-39) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (37-25)

It is the second contest of a three-game series between the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers starting on Saturday. These teams play Friday evening, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that contest. Texas is coming off a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, snapping a three-game losing streak. Los Angeles defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, 6-3. That gave them victories in three straight games.

Los Angeles is the favorite at -312. The odds for the Rangers are set at +245. The Dodgers have won the last two meetings between these teams heading into the series and are 7-3 in the last 10 overall.

Walk-Off Homer Helps Rangers Snap Skid

Brock Holt singled home the winning run with two down in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Texas Rangers a 4-3 walk-off victory over the San Francisco Giants. Eli White swung the big bat, going 2-4 with a run scored. Brett Martin earned the victory with two innings of solid relief.

Texas is averaging 3.91 runs per game, 24th overall and they are 21st in runs allowed per game at 4.76. The Rangers are 25th in run differential at -0.86. Texas is 25th in team batting average at .228 and is 19th in home runs per game at 1.08.

Texas will start left-hander Kolby Allard. Allard is 1-2 with a 3.41 ERA in 12 appearances, two of which are starts. He has started in each of his last two appearances, allowing four total earned runs in nine innings pitched. He is looking to build up his stamina right now, as the team stretches him out hoping for 5+ innings in this contest.

Adolis Garcia has 16 homers and 44 RBI to go along with a .276 batting average. Joey Gallo is second with 11 homers and Nate Lowe has driven in 32 runs. Texas will be without David Dahl, Joey Gallo, Ronald Guzman, and Sam Huff. They also have six relievers who are out.

Dodgers Double Up Pirates

Left-hander Julio Urias gave up three runs in six innings to earn his ninth victory of the season as the Los Angeles Dodgers doubled up the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-3. Mookie Betts continues to shine since returning from the disabled list, finishing 2-4, including hitting his sixth homer of the year. Cody Bellinger went 2-5 with two runs scored. A three-run third inning for the Dodgers proved to be the difference in this contest.

The Los Angeles offense is second in runs per game at 5.26 and the team is seventh in runs allowed per contest at 3.82. That puts the Dodgers first in run differential at 1.43. Los Angeles is 12th in team batting average at .240 and ninth in home runs per game at 1.23.

Trevor Bauer gets the start for Los Angeles. The right-hander is 6-4 with a 2.40 ERA in 13 starts. He was solid in his last outing, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings against Atlanta. Bauer has allowed three earned runs in each of his last two starts, but had allowed two or fewer in his 10 prior starts.

Max Muncy leads Los Angeles with 13 homers and 31 RBI. Justin Turner is second with 11 homers and 33 runs driven in, and he has a .279 batting average. The Dodgers will be without Edwin Rios, Corey Seager, and Yoshitomo Tsutsugo.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Los Angeles is likely to be the favorite in this series all weekend, and a substantial one at that. This game is no different especially considering that it is Bauer on the hill. He has not been as dominating in his last two starts, but he is more than up to the task against a Texas team that is struggling to get some offense going.

Los Angeles should have more than enough success against Allard. While he has looked solid in his two starts, those were against Seattle and Tampa Bay, not exactly potent offenses. He is about to get a dose of reality against the Dodgers in this contest.

Prediction: Take the Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

For the second straight night, the total is set at 7.5, and I find that to be a surprising one. If Bauer continues as he has pitched of late, he is good for about three runs allowed in this contest. Allard is going to give up at least three himself, so oddsmakers must believe that the bullpens will give up no more than one run in this game. A bad way of thinking to be honest with you.

The Dodgers are going to have another big offensive night, as this Texas bullpen has an ERA of 4.59. Should they come in for four innings, they are going to give up at least two runs in this game, probably three. That makes the over the smart pick.

Take Los Angeles to win, 6-3.

Prediction: Go over 7.5 (-116)
