The Mets had a three-game winning streak halted on Tuesday from Colorado, falling 10-8. Jason Vargas lasted just 2.1 innings for New York. The Rockies have won five of the last six against the Mets.
New York will send right-hander Seth Lugo to the mound. He’s 2-2 with a 2.49 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. Lugo is making his third straight start in place of injured Noah Syndergaard. In his last start, he allowed five runs and eight hits over five innings at Arizona. The former reliever is 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA in one start and two relief appearances against the Rockies in his career.
Colorado will send Chad Bettis to the bump. He’s 5-1 with a 4.65 ERA this season. He gave up five runs in his last start but got the win. He’s 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance against the Mets.
Even the Mets can hit in Colorado. They’ve scored 20 runs and even though Lugo’s numbers look good, they are deceiving. He will be lucky to get out of the fourth inning. The Mets are 9-2-1 Over in Lugo’s 12 road starts. Colorado is 11-2-1 Over their last 14 vs. a team with a losing record and 18-7-3 Over their last 28 overall.
