Texas Goes with Lorenzen to Close Series

The Texas Rangers are battling to stay relevant in the AL West standings as the All-Star Break looms. The defending World Series champions swept the Rays in Texas over the weekend to pull within six games of .500. The Rangers recently welcomed back starter Max Scherzer and are hopeful to see the returns of starters Jacob de Grom, Dane Dunning and Cody Bradford very shortly to bolster their pitching staff. The Rangers powered past the Angels in game one, 9-4.

The Texas Rangers will turn to righty Michael Lorenzen in the series finale with the Angels on Wednesday night. Lorenzen is 5-4 on the season with a 3.21 ERA and a WHIP of 1.18. Lorenzen has allowed just 63 hits in 87 innings pitched including 12 home runs. He has had some command issues, walking 40 batters and striking out just 62 thus far. In his last start, Lorenzen allowed just one hit without a run in five innings against the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-0 win.

Canning on the Hill for the Angels

It has been a very tough season for the Los Angeles Angels in 2024. They have battled injuries to key players, most notably center fielder Mike Trout. The multi-time MVP has announced recently that he hopes to be back from a knee injury by the end of this month but it will likely be far too late to save the Angels' sinking ship this season. The Angels have lost five of their last six games entering this series including two of three this weekend against the Cubs. The Angels lost their second straight game on Monday in a 9-4 loss to the Rangers.

*Tuesday night's game was rained out.

The Angels will go with righty Griffin Canning in the third and final game against the Rangers on Wednesday night at home. Canning is 3-9 this season in 18 starts including five quality starts. Canning has an ERA of 4.87 and a WHIP of 1.36 while giving up 17 home runs. He has allowed 99 hits in 98 innings pitched while striking out 67 and walking 34 batters. In his last start, Canning went 4.1 innings and allowed six hits and four runs in a 5-1 loss to the Cubs.

Key Injuries: RP Jose Cisnero, 3B Luis Rengifo, and CF Mike Trout are out.

Best Bets for Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Rangers know the formula for getting right back in the AL West Division race. Last year, after nearly fading down the stretch, the Rangers recovered and went on to win the World Series. They are getting healthier and their offense is starting to reach the levels they were at frequently last season. The Rangers will get to take their swings against Canning on Wednesday night against a pitcher who has given up 17 home runs this season and does not get a ton of swings and misses with just 67 strikeouts in 98 innings pitched. The Angels have lost three of Canning's last five starts as well. The Rangers' Lorenzen is coming off a stellar outing against the Rays in which he allowed just one hit over five innings to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Take the Rangers with the money line.

Prediction: Texas ML

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Angels have gone over the total in three of Canning's last five starts this season. Canning has had issues with the long ball, allowing 17 this season. The Rangers have gone over the run total in three of Lorenzen's last five starts well. Both teams have pitching staffs with ERAs over 4.00 this season and the Rangers' offense has started to find its groove in recent weeks. This one will get past a reasonable run total to hit the over.

Take the over.

Prediction: Over 8.5
