San Francisco Giants (59-35) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (59-37)
The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers wrap up a four-game series at Dodger Stadium in LA on Thursday, July 22, so I’m taking a closer look at this National League West showdown to find the best Giants vs. Dodgers betting pick while bringing you the latest team stats, news, and odds.
The Giants and Dodgers split the first two games of this set, as San Francisco won the opener as a +115 road dog, 7-2, while the Dodgers bounced back with an 8-6 victory last Tuesday, satisfying -140 odds in front of the home fans.
San Francisco hopes to recover from a tough loss on TuesdayThe San Francisco Giants fell to 59-35 on the season following a painful defeat at Dodger Stadium in the second clash of this series. They had a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but Tyler Rodgers allowed a three-run walk-off home run to Will Smith. Also, the Giants had a huge 6-2 lead at the end of the fifth, so they’ll have to regroup and focus on what lays ahead.
San Francisco still owns the best record in the majors. Over the last three weeks, the Giants have scored 78 runs in 15 outings while posting a .266/.349/.465 slash line. On the other side of the ball, they’ve recorded a solid 3.64 ERA in July.

Anthony DeSclafani will take the mound Thursday, facing off against the Dodgers for the fourth time this season. The 31-year-old right-hander is 0-2 with a horrible 10.95 ERA in his previous three encounters with the Blue Crew, and he’s 1-7 with a 6.32 ERA in nine career starts against the Dodgers.
DeSclafani is 10-4 with a sharp 2.78 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 19 starts this term. He’s been charged for a loss last time out, yielding three earned runs on five hits across six frames of work in a 3-1 defeat at the St. Louis Cardinals.
Will Smith saved the shorthanded DodgersThe Los Angeles Dodgers are without Mookie Betts who’s dealing with a hip injury, while Corey Seager (hand) and Gavin Lux (hamstring) are both on the injury list. The reigning champs hope to get the 2020 World Series MVP back on Wednesday, but Seager’s status is still pretty much in limbo.
Anyway, the shorthanded Dodgers beat the Giants this past Tuesday thanks to Will Smith’s 12th dinger of the season. They improved to 59-37 on the season, so the Dodgers were one game behind the Giants and four games ahead of the Padres on Wednesday.

Both Justin Turner and Max Muncy got hit by a pitch on Tuesday but should be ready to go in this one. The Dodgers have scored a whopping 108 runs in 16 games this month, posting a terrific .279/.350/.504 slash line. On the other side of the ball, they’ve registered a 3.34 ERA in July while allowing a .228 batting average to their opponents.
Walker Buehler will take the hill Thursday, and he’s 10-1 with a sparkly 2.37 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 19 starts this season. The 26-year-old righty is 2-0 in three starts against the Giants in 2021, yielding four runs (two earned) on 12 hits and five walks across 19.2 frames of work.
San Francisco Giants:
- 4-9 in the last 13 games against the Dodgers
Los Angeles Dodgers:
- 15-6 in the last 21 games overall
- 8-2 in the last ten games at home
- 7-2 in Walker Buehler’s last nine starts
Best Bets for this Game
Full-Game Side Bet
Walker Buehler is 6-0 with a 2.17 ERA in eight career starts and a couple of relief appearances against the Giants, and I’m expecting him to put on another strong performance Thursday at Dodger Stadium. The righty will search for his third straight win, and in his previous two showings (13 innings), Buehler has surrendered just a couple of earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out 15 in the process.
The current Giants are batting just 14-for-79 against Buehler while posting a poor .377 OPS. On the other side, the current Dodgers are slashing .430/.489/.718 against Anthony DeSclafani.
Full-Game Total Pick
Although DeSclafani has struggled against the Dodgers throughout his career, he’s been enjoying a wonderful 2021 season. Even if he continues to struggle against LA, the Giants can lean on their bullpen that owns the fourth-lowest ERA in baseball (3.38).
The Dodgers’ relievers sport a 3.58 ERA (6th in the majors). I’ve mentioned the Giants’ offensive woes against Buehler, so give me the under on the totals.
