This Friday, the (61-52) Seattle Mariners and the (49-61) Texas Rangers will play their first game of this three-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 8:05 PM EST inside Globe Life Field. This is also the fifth series between these two teams this regular season, as they are becoming very familiar with one another. The Mariners swept the Rangers in their last three-game series.

The Seattle Mariners are coming into this one after winning their series against the New York Yankees. The Mariners were lights out in the field and on the mound, as they made it very difficult for the Yankees at the dish. They will need their defense and pitching to stay top-notch if they want to take care of business on the road.

The Texas Rangers are entering this series after battling with the Houston Astros. They were able to squeak out a win in game two, as they exploded at the plate. They scored eight runs, as the Astros just couldn't keep up on the scoreboard. They will need to carry that momentum into this one.

This game was written/published before last night's results.

The Mariners are HOT!

The Seattle Mariners continue to stack wins in the second half of this season, as they are currently (6-4) in their last 10. They stole the second game of their last series against the Yankees by hitting a late home run, as they have it all working right now. They are still in second place in the AL West, as they are 10.5 games out of first place. At the plate, the Mariners have had issues, though. They are currently scoring 4.05 runs per game and they are hitting .231 as a team. This is the 23rd least amount of runs scored per game and the 25th lowest overall team batting average. They have failed to consistently reach base, as this has made it much more difficult to score. They have also stranded a lot of base runners while they were in scoring position. They must be more clutch at the plate when they have men on base. Luckily, Seattle realized that they had a ton of home run power inside their batting lineup. They are averaging 1.12 bombs per game, which is the 14th most in the league. They can score multiple different ways, as they are not one-dimensional at the plate. I also expect the Mariners to stay fairly conservative once they have reached base safely. They have already stolen 57 bases this season, which is the 16th most in the league. They will do whatever it takes to keep pushing their base runners closer to home plate.

The Mariners have been one of the best teams in the league on the mound. They are sure-handed in the infield and they have enough speed in the outfield to make the majority of their plays. They are currently allowing 3.92 runs per game and they have the highest overall team fielding percentage. They have only committed 39 errors this season. This is the least amount of errors recorded this season, as they have done a great job of backing up their starting pitchers.

According to MLB.com, the Mariners will start George Kirby on the mound. He is currently (3-3) with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. He has looked solid over his last few starts, as well. He pitched for 6.0 innings and only allowed one earned run, as he completely shut down the Angels the last time he was on the mound. The Mariners' bullpen has also been solid this season, as they are allowing the ninth least amount of runs per game. They are only allowing 3.42 runs per game.

The Rangers want to Keep it Rolling!

The Texas Rangers gave the Houston Astros a run for their money in their last series, as they showed up at the plate against Justin Verlander on Wednesday night. They are currently (4-6) in their last 10, as they need to show up at the plate more consistently. The Rangers are also still in third place in the AL West, as they are 21.0 games out of first place. At the plate, the Rangers are scoring 4.54 runs per game and they are hitting .239 as a team. This is the 12th most runs scored per game, but only the 19th highest overall team batting average. They have struggled to consistently reach base, but they have shown that they have enough power inside their lineup to make up for it. They are averaging 1.21 home runs per game, which is the 9th most in the league. They have multiple guys that can go yard at any given moment, as this is how they have been exploding at the plate. I also expect them to stay extremely aggressive once they have reached base safely. They have already recorded 86 stolen bases, which is the second most in the league. They push their base runners into scoring position as quickly as they can, as they know that they can't waste base runners.

On the mound, they are currently allowing 4.53 runs per game and they have the 24th lowest overall team fielding percentage. They make mistakes that come back to hurt them, as this has been a problem for the majority of the season.

According to MLB.com, the Rangers are undecided on who will start on the mound in this game. This will most likely be a group effort, as the Rangers will go to their bullpen early in this one. I would make sure to check covers.com or MLB.com to find out who they are starting before you place your bet. I just wouldn't expect the starter to pitch deep into this game. The Texas bullpen has also been solid this season, as well. They are allowing the 12th least amount of runs per game with 3.72.

Rating:

Let's get aggressive with this one. The Texas Rangers have been up and down all season and the Mariners have been red hot over the past month. Seattle's pitching and fielding will hold the Rangers at the plate, as Texas won't score enough runs to keep this game within the run line spread (-1.5). Texas is scoring the 12th most runs per game, but they have the 19th lowest overall team batting average. They won't consistently reach base, as it is very difficult to score on the Mariners. They are allowing the fifth least amount of runs per game and they are one of the cleanest teams in the field. They don't make mistakes that come back to hurt them and they do a great job of backing up their starting pitcher. I also see George Kirby shutting down the Rangers while they are at the plate. He is (3-3) with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP, but he looked lights out in his last start. He pitched for 6.0 innings and only allowed one earned run. He completely shut down the Angels, as he will keep it rolling in this one, as well. The Rangers are going to stay stagnant at the plate and the Mariners will tee off on the Rangers bullpen. They are allowing 3.72 runs per game and Seattle has had it rolling at the plate over the past few weeks.

The Mariners will stay hot and take care of business on the road in this one. Take them and lay the run line spread (-1.5).

Prediction: Seattle Mariners -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

We are going to stay aggressive with this pick, as well. The Seattle Mariners are one of the best defensive teams in the league, as they did a great job of slowing down the Yankees when they were at the dish in their last series. They will now shut down the Rangers in this one. Texas has the 19th lowest overall team batting average, as the Mariners will be able to keep them off the bases for the majority of this game. If your book does not have the line set at this number, I would recommend buying to it. The Rangers aren't going to score enough runs to cover this run line spread and they won't score enough runs to push this total over the number either. The Mariners will also have trouble at the plate at different points throughout this game. They are scoring the 23rd least amount of runs per game and they have the 25th lowest overall team batting average. They will struggle to reach base safely, as this game will remain low-scoring. Both of these teams struggle at the plate, as the pitchers will have the final laugh in this game.

Take the under (7.5) and expect both teams to continue having issues at the plate.

Prediction: Under 7.5
