Starting Pitchers: Eduardo Rodriguez (L) 4-3, 3.97 ERA, 1.26 WHIP (BOS) v. Mike Clevinger (R) 6-5, 3.75 ERA, WHIP (CLE)
Money Line: Boston Red Sox +120 | Cleveland Indians -130
The Cleveland Indians will host the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. These two clubs both lead their respective divisions. The Tribe owns a five-game lead in the AL Central. The Boston Red Sox also have a five-game lead in the AL East. Which club will strengthen their postseason bid with a victory on Monday night in Cleveland?
Red Sox top the Yankees
The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees, 5-1, in a rubber match on Sunday. The win pushed the Sox another game ahead of the second-place Yankees. Boston’s lineup has carried them to several crucial wins this season. The Red Sox have been one of the best offensive teams in the majors. They’ve scored 590 runs this season, which is the tied for the tenth-most in either league.
The Red Sox will send Eduardo Rodriguez out to the mound in this matchup with the Indians. Rodriguez has had a pretty nice season thus far. Although, he hasn’t won a game since May. The young lefty gave up 8 hits, 1 walk, and 4 runs in his most recent start against the St. Louis Cardinals. That outing resulted in a no-decision. Rodriguez will try to finally add another win to his record as he takes on the Tribe in this one.
Indians stumble in Kansas City
The Cleveland Indians fell short in a trip to Kansas City, losing 7-4 to the Royals on Sunday. The loss prevented the Tribe from sweeping the Royals. The Indians really struggled at the plate in the loss. They only finished the game with 8 hits, and they only scored 1 run in the final five innings. Cleveland’s lineup has been great for much of the season. They’ve scored 590 runs this season, which is tied with the Red Sox for the tenth-most in Major League Baseball.
Mike Clevinger will start Monday’s game on the mound. Clevinger has had a decent season, but he struggled in his last start. The young right-hander gave up 3 hits, 3 walks, and 2 runs in only 2 2/3 innings of action in a loss to the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis. Clevinger will do his best to bounce back with a win at home against the Red Sox on Sunday.
The Boston Red Sox are:
- 6-1 in their last 7 vs. American League Central.
- 5-1 in their last 6 road games.
- 13-3 in their last 16 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- 12-3 in their last 15 games on grass.
- 10-1 in Rodriguez’s last 11 starts with 4 days of rest.
The Cleveland Indians are:
- 1-4 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
- 1-5 in Clevinger’s last 6 starts during game 1 of a series.
The Boston Red Sox have been red hot recently. The Sox have won 14 of their last 17 games. Meanwhile, the Indians have lost three of their last four in Cleveland. Mike Clevinger has really struggled at Progressive Field. He has a 5.08 ERA at home this season. Clevinger was lit up by the Red Sox the last time he faced off with Boston’s lineup, and I think they’ll do it again on Monday night. I like the Red Sox to win this one on the road.
