This Monday, the (78-44) New York Mets and the (73-48) New York Yankees will play game one of this short two-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 7:05 PM EST inside Yankee Stadium. The Subway Series will continue, as the Yankees swept the Mets the last time they matched up.

The New York Mets are coming into this one after winning the first two games of their last series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets looked great at the plate, as they continued to give themselves chances to score throughout that series. They will need their bats to stay hot if they want to take down the Yankees on the road.

The New York Yankees fell to the Toronto Blue Jays in their last series, as they continue to struggle at the plate. They scored four combined runs in the first three games of that series. They will need to wake up at the plate if they want to defend their home field and challenge the Mets in this one.

The Mets are Hot at The Plate!

The New York Mets are currently in the second seed in the NL Playoff race, as they are leading their division by 3.0 games. The Braves are nipping at their heels, but they continue to stack wins. They are (5-5) in their last 10 and they looked great at the plate against the Phillies to begin their last series. They will now attempt to keep it rolling against the Yankees. At the plate, the Mets are scoring 4.80 runs per game and they are hitting .257 as a team. This is the fifth most runs scored per game and the fifth highest overall team batting average. They are consistently reaching base and they are driving men in when they are in scoring position, as they have been lethal at the plate over the past three weeks. They are also showing that they aren't one-dimensional at the plate, as they have a ton of power littered throughout their batting lineup. They can string together multiple base hits or they can clear the bases with a moonshot over the outfield walls. The Mets are hitting 1.01 bombs per game, which is the 17th most in the MLB. I also expect the Mets to stay conservative once they reach base safely. They have only stolen 45 bases this season, which is the 24th most in the MLB. They can't risk losing their base runners, as their bats have been good enough to score consistently throughout the game.

According to MLB.com, the Mets will be sending star Max Scherzer to the mound. He is 9-2 with a 2.15 ERA and a .93 WHIP. Reaching base consistently against him has been a challenge for his opponents, as he continues to stay dominant on the mound. He is also (5-1) on the road this season, as he continues to pitch well outside of his home ballpark. The Mets bullpen has also been great this season, as they are allowing the 10th least amount of runs per game. They are allowing 3.66 runs per game, as they continue to pitch well against their opponents when they are on the road. The Mets will make it difficult for the Yankees at the plate once they take Scherzer off the mound. The Mets are allowing the fourth least amount of runs as a team, as they have been very difficult to score against this season.

The Yankees Need to Heat Up

The New York Yankees are currently holding second place in the AL Playoff race. They are 2-8 in their last 10 games played, but they had a big enough lead to still hang on to the top spot in the AL East. The Yankees currently have a 7.0 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays, as they still have a secure lead in the East. They will need to heat up at the plate over the next few weeks if they want to give themselves a shot in the playoffs. At the plate this season they are scoring 5.04 runs per game and they are hitting .241 as a team. This is the second most runs scored per game and the 18th lowest overall team batting average. They have struggled to consistently reach base, as their power has saved them this season. They have shown that they can score multiple different ways, as they are averaging the most home runs hit per game in the MLB. The Yankees are hitting 1.62 bombs per game, as they have multiple guys that can change the game with one swing of the bat.

According to MLB.com, the Yankees will start Domingo German on the mound. He is 1-2 on the season with a 4.45 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. In his last start, he pitched for 4.2 innings and gave up three earned runs. He looked solid against the Rays, as he made it very difficult to score. He got out of multiple jams and continued to through strikes. He is also (1-0) at home this season with a 4.66 ERA. He has given up runs, but his team always bounces back when he is on the mound. The Yankees bullpen has also been great this season, as they are allowing the second least amount of runs per game. They are only allowing 3.01 runs per game, as scoring on the Yankees late in the game is very difficult.

I will be riding with the New York Mets (-1.5) in this matchup against the Yankees. The Mets are on the road, but they still have the clear advantage in this one. The Mets will have Max Scherzer on the mound, as he is (9-2) on the season with a 2.15 ERA and a .93 WHIP. The Yankees have been horrible at the plate over the last few weeks, as I don't see them scoring enough runs to keep this game completive. Scherzer is also (5-1) with a 2.56 ERA on the road. He is stepping into his opponent's ballparks and completely shutting them down. I see him doing that again in this one, as well. Scherzer will pitch deep into this game and he will give his team the best chance of winning. I also don't trust Domingo Germán as much on the mound, as he has gotten banged up in his last few starts. The Mets will keep it rolling at the plate against them and they will slowly pull away. The Mets are scoring the fifth most runs per game and they have the fifth highest overall team batting average. They will consistently reach base throughout this game and give themselves plenty of opportunities to score.

This game isn't going to stay close, as the Yankees will continue to struggle at the plate. Pick the New York Mets and lay the run line spread (-1.5).

Prediction: New York Mets -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

I will be riding with the under (7.5) in this one between the Mets and the Yankees. Max Scherzer is starting on the mound and I see him keeping the Yankee's team total very low. The Yankees have been horrible at the plate over the last two weeks and I just don't see them scoring enough runs to push this total over (7.5). Scherzer will also do a great job of limiting the number of home runs that the Yankees hit. He will keep them off the scoreboard and the bases. The Mets are allowing the fourth least amount of runs per game, as they have continued to shut down their opponents when they are at the plate. The Mets will also do their part in keeping this score under (7.5), as Domingo Germán has looked solid inside Yankee Stadium this season. The Mets will eventually cash in at the plate, but they won't score enough runs to push this total over the number. The Yankees bullpen is too solid and German will hold strong through the first few innings of this game.

Take the under (7.5) and trust the starting pitchers in this one.

Prediction: Under 7.5
