The Los Angeles Angels (52-70, 55-66 RL, 49-61-11 O/U) battle the Tampa Bay Rays (66-55, 58-62 RL, 54-57-9 O/U) in the second of a four-game series on Tuesday evening. The Angels will have Jose Suarez on the hill, aiming for his fifth win. The Rays counter with Corey Kluber targeting his first win since July. The Rays lead the season series 2-1.

Suarez Eyes Third Win of August

Jose Suarez will be on the hill for the 16th time of the season. Suarez was decent last time out, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings against the Mariners, and was charged with the loss. The veteran left-hander has been stellar recently, posting a minuscule 1.56 ERA this month, and has improved his season ERA to 4.12 along with a 1.33 WHIP and a 4-5 record in 67.2 innings pitched. Suarez has conceded four runs in seven career innings against the Rays.

The Halos resume a challenging 10-game road trip. They continue to stumble, losing two of three in Detroit this past weekend including a 4-0 loss on Sunday and are 1-5 in their last six games. The offense only managed three runs in the entire series against the Tigers.

Shohei Ohtani continues to dazzle at the dish, amassing 12 hits and five RBIs in his last six games. The 28-year-old superstar now has 27 homers, 72 RBIs, and a solid .873 OPS. Shohei had a big series against the Rays, going  6 for 13 with two homers and five RBIs. He is listed as questionable due to illness.

The Angels are scoring an average of only 3.79 runs per game, ranking them 25th overall. The pitching staff has logged a 3.88 team ERA, placing them 15th in the big leagues.

Kluber on the Hill, Rays Continue Homestand

The Rays will have Corey Kluber make his 24th outing of the season. Kluber was great in his latest effort, limiting the Yankees to only two runs in six innings, and finished with a no-decision in a game the Rays lost in extra innings. The veteran right-hander has not been a reliable pitcher recently as evidenced by his five ERA in his last five starts. Kluber enters with a 4.33 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP accompanied by a 7-7 record in 122.2 innings of action. He surrendered eight runs in 3.3 innings against the Angles earlier this season and is 3-3 with a 4.97 ERA in nine career meetings.

The Rays continue an eight-game homestand. They won three of four against the Royals this weekend and feature a strong 7-3 record in their last ten games. The offense will only get better as Wander Franco is expected to return later this month. The Rays hold the 2nd Wildcard spot.

The Rays are glad to have Manuel Margot back in the lineup. The 27-year-old slugger missed over two months due to injury and his offense is definitely needed. Margot has collected 27 RBIs and a .766 OPS on the year. He is 2 for 3 against the Angels this season.

Tampa Bay is scoring an average of 4.12 runs, landing them 23rd overall. The pitching staff has accrued a strong 3.38 team ERA, good for fifth in the Major Leagues.

Rating:

The Angels now have Ohtani and Trout in the lineup and are dangerous on any given night as a result. The Angels have fared well on the road, going 4-3 in their last seven road games. Angels starter Jose Suarez features a dazzling 1.56 ERA in his three starts this month

Furthermore, the Angels have solved the Rays pitching, scoring 26 runs in the four meetings this season. Rays’ starter Corey Kluber hasn't been very effective recently. The veteran has surrendered 20 runs in his last 29 innings, giving him an ERA well of 6 in that span. The Angels scored a whopping eight runs in 3.3 innings against Kluber earlier this season.

Prediction: Los Angeles Angels +154

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I am opting for the over in this one. The Angels pitching is a big reason they are having a disappointing season. Suarez will be solid but rarely pitches past the fifth inning.  The Rays’ offense should contribute to this total. They have averaged 4.5 runs in their last ten games.

In addition, as mentioned, the Angels are a team that often gives huge Kluber trouble. He has posted a poor 4.97 ERA in nine career meetings against the foes. The over is also a convincing 3-0-1 in Kluber’s last four starts.

Prediction: Over 7
