This Saturday, the (48-78) Detroit Tigers and the (58-67) Texas Rangers will play their second game of this three-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 7:05 PM EST inside Globe Life Field. This is also the second series between these teams this regular season. The first time they matched up they split a four-game series.

The Detroit Tigers are coming into this one after splitting a short two-game series with the San Francisco Giants. The Tigers struggled at the plate in game one, but their bats woke up in game two. They ended up scoring six runs to close out that series.

The Texas Rangers are entering this one after splitting their two-game series with the Colorado Rockies. The Rangers exploded at the plate in the final game, as they scored 16 runs. They had everything working at the plate, as they continued to consistently score throughout that game. They will need their bats to stay hot if they want to take down the Tigers in this one.

Can the Tigers Make a Run?

The Detroit Tigers are 5-5 in their last 10 games played, as their average play has taken them out of the playoff race. They are also 21 games back from the Seattle Mariners for the third and final AL Wild Card Spot. Detroit is still in last place in the AL Central, as the Tigers are also 19 games back from the first-place Cleveland Guardians. At the plate, the Tigers are scoring 3.30 runs per game and they are hitting .227 as a team. This is the least amount of runs scored per game and the fourth lowest overall team batting average. They have struggled to consistently reach base, which has made it much more difficult to score. They also have very little power inside their batting lineup. The Tigers are only hitting .59 bombs per game, which is also the lowest average in the league. The Tigers have continued to struggle at the plate, as they have also consistently stranded base runners all season. Detroit has also only stolen 38 bases, as this is the fourth least amount of bases taken this regular season. They don't have a ton of speed inside of their batting lineup.

According to MLB.com, The Tigers will be starting Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound. He is currently 2-3 with a 3.89 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. In his last start, he pitched for 5.0 innings and didn't allow an earned run against the Angels. Rodriguez has been a train wreck on the road, as well. He is currently 0-2 with a 5.30 ERA inside his opponent's ballparks. The Detroit bullpen does give me some hope, though. They are allowing 3.35 runs per game, which is the eighth lowest bullpen ERA in the MLB this season. They have done a great job of limiting their opponents once they have relieved their starter. As a team, the Tigers are allowing 4.44 runs per game, which is the 18th most runs surrendered per game.

The Rangers Need to get Hot

The Texas Rangers have been doing everything they can to make a push towards the postseason, as they are 6-4 in their last 10. They are also still 10.5 games behind the Mariners for the final AL Wild Card spot. The Rangers are going to need to go on an impressive run if they want to make the playoffs this season. They are still in third place in the AL West, as well. They are 22 games back from the first-place Houston Astros. At the plate, the Rangers are scoring 4.59 runs per game and they are hitting .243 as a team. This is the 10th most runs scored per game, but the 14th highest overall team batting average. This team has found multiple different ways to score this season, as they can consistently string together hits or hit a nuke over the outfield walls. Texas is averaging 1.22 home runs per game, which is the ninth-highest average in the MLB. They have multiple guys that can change the game with one swing of the bat. The Rangers have also been very aggressive once they have reached base safely. They have already stolen 96 bases, which is the second most in the league. The Rangers have a ton of speed inside their lineup.

According to MLB.com, the Rangers will be starting Dallas Keuchel on the mound. He is currently 2-7 with an 8.53 ERA. The Texas bullpen has also been great this season, as they are allowing the 12th least amount of runs per game. They have been shutting down batting lineups late in these games all season. As a team, the Rangers are allowing 4.46 runs per game, which is the 20th most.

I will be riding with the Texas Rangers ML in this matchup with the Tigers. The Rangers are scoring the 10th most runs per game and they have the 14th highest overall team batting average. They will consistently reach base against Rodriguez and they will also give themselves plenty of opportunities to score. As long as they are driving in men when they are in scoring position, they will be fine. I also don't have a ton of faith in Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound, as he has struggled to begin the season. He hasn't started many games, but he is still 2-3 with a 3.89 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. He looked good against the Angels in his last start, but they have been horrible at the plate since returning from the break. He was shelled in his start before that, though. He only pitched for .1 innings and gave up four hits and three earned runs. He did not have it rolling in that one, as I see the Rangers hitting him early in this one, as well. Texas will score multiple different ways in this game, as they will slowly pull away from the Tigers. Detroit isn't hitting the ball well right now and they will stay cold at the plate in this one.

Take the Texas Rangers ML, as they are the better overall team in this one.

Prediction: Texas Rangers ML

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

I will be taking the over 8.5 in this matchup between the Tigers and the Rangers. If your book doesn't have the total set at this number, then I would recommend buying to it. Texas is scoring the 10th most runs per game and they have the 14th highest overall team batting average. They will consistently score throughout this game, as the Tigers have continued to struggle on the mound. As a team, Detroit is allowing the 18th most runs per game, as they have continued to give up big innings. The Rangers will score the majority of the runs in this game, as I also see them showing off their power. They are hitting the ninth most home runs per game, as they will string together base hits and also clear the bases with a home run. Rodriguez has only looked good against the struggling Angels and the Rangers have been playing great over the past few weeks. They are 6-4 in their last 10 games and they scored 16 runs on the Colorado Rockies to close out that series. They are feeling it at the plate right now, as they will do their part in pushing this total over 8.5. The Tigers will also give us a few insurance runs, as I don't have a ton of confidence in the Rangers starting pitcher.

Take the over 8.5 and trust that both starting pitchers will struggle in this one.

Prediction: Over 8.5
