Starting Pitchers: Gio Gonzalez (L) 13-5, 2.40 ERA, 1.11 WHIP (WAS) v. Zach Davies (R) 15-7, 3.91 ERA, 1.35 WHIP (MIL)
Money Line: Washington Nationals -121 | Milwaukee Brewers +110
The Milwaukee Brewers will play host to the Washington Nationals on Thursday night. The Nats have been one of the best teams in the majors this season. They have a substantial 14 game lead in the NL East. The Brewers, on the other hand, are fighting for a spot in the playoffs. They’re 3.5 games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. The Brewers are also 3.5 games back in the National League Wild Card race. Will the Brewers inch closer to a spot in the postseason with a win in Milwaukee on Thursday?
Nats thump the Marlins
The Washington Nationals picked up an impressive 8-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. It was their third consecutive win. The Nats finished Tuesday’s game with a dozen hits. Washington’s lineup has been terrific throughout the season. They’ve scored 697 runs, which is the second-most in the majors.
Gio Gonzalez will get the nod for the Nats. Gonzalez has been incredible this season. He has won five consecutive decisions. Gonzalez allowed just 6 hits, a walk, and 2 runs in 6 2/3 innings against the New York Mets in a winning effort. The left-handed veteran hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in his last six starts. He’ll try to keep it going as he takes on Milwaukee’s lineup in this one.
Brewers clobbered by the Cards
The Milwaukee Brewers are desperately trying to stay in the playoff hunt. Their most recent 10-2 divisional loss to the St. Louis Cardinals didn’t help their cause. Milwaukee’s lineup couldn’t get anything going in the loss. They finished the night with nine hits, but they couldn’t drive in many runs. The Brewers will try to bounce back against Gio Gonzalez and the Nats in this one.
Zach Davies starts Wednesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals. Davies had a terrific outing in his most recent. He pitched 7 scoreless innings in a win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The right-hander only allowed 3 hits, and he fanned 7 batters. Davies will look to get another victory as he takes on the Nats on Wednesday.
The Washington Nationals are:
- 4-0 in their last 4 Thursday games.
- 8-1 in their last 9 during game 1 of a series.
- 9-2 in their last 11 vs. National League Central.
- 6-0 in Gonzalez’s last 6 starts.
- 8-2 in Gonzalez’s last 10 starts vs. a team with a winning record.
- 7-2 in Gonzalez’s last 9 road starts.
The Milwaukee Brewers are:
- 2-5 in their last 7 vs. National League East.
- 0-4 in their last 4 during game 1 of a series.
- 1-6 in Davies’ last 7 home starts vs. a team with a winning record.
Gio Gonzalez has been incredible on the hill this season. He has a ridiculous 1.03 ERA in four starts this month. Additionally, Gonzalez was terrific in his only start against the Brewers. He gave up just 2 runs while fanning 8 batters in seven innings. I like the Washington Nationals to take this one behind a strong performance by Gio Gonzalez.
