The Texas Rangers will host the Los Angeles Angels in the finale of a four-game series on Thursday afternoon. The Rangers won the series opener 4-1 on Monday, and the Angels won 11-3 on Tuesday. Wednesday night's game was not yet complete at the time of this preview. The Angeles have won six of the first 10 head-to-head games this season.

After Ohtani, its been another disappointing season for the Angels.

After going into the All-Star break with slight playoff hopes, the Angles have since gone just 8-14 and fallen well out of contention. The Los Angeles Angels are fourth in the AL West with a 53-58 record and are 23-28 in road games. The Angels are 11th in MLB on the season, averaging 4.7 runs per game, fifth with a .254 batting average, and eighth with 139 home runs. Shohei Ohtani leads all of MLB with 37 home runs and is tied for second with 82 RBI. Ohtani has also been a force on the pitching mound, where he is 5-1 with a 3.04 ERA in 15 starts before Wednesday's game.

The pitching for Los Angeles has struggled overall this season, with the team ranking 25th with a 4.75 ERA. Scheduled to start on Thursday will be Dylan Bundy, who is 1-8 with a 6.66 ERA on the season. In 10 career appearances against the Rangers, Bundy is 5-2 with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.

Rangers flirting with the worst record in baseball

The Texas Rangers are having another disappointing season, dead-last in the AL West with a 39-68 record. Texas is in clear rebuilding mode and shipped All-Star slugger Joey Gallo to the New York Yankees at the end of July. Gallo was leading the Rangers with 25 home runs and second with 55 RBI on the season. Jose Adolis Garcia leads the remaining Rangers with a .254 batting average, 23 home runs, and 63 RBI. On the season, Texas is 28th, scoring 3.8 runs per game and 29th with a .225 team batting average.

Twenty-five-year-old right-hander Spencer Howard will make his Texas Rangers debut on Thursday after recently being acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies. In 11 games, including seven starts with the Phillies this season, Howard is 0-2 with a 5.72 ERA on the season.

Both of these teams are struggling and currently playing for pride. The Angels have Dylan Bundy starting, who has a strong track record in his career against Texas, despite his struggles overall in 2021. The trends heavily lean on the side of the Angels, and they have also been the better offensive team. Without an elite pitcher throwing on either side, I will take the Angles at a reasonable price.

Prediction: Los Angeles Angels -109

I expect to see plenty of runs in this game. In his second big-league season, the Rangers starter, Spencer Howard, has a career 5.81 ERA and a 5.03 ERA in day games. Angels starter Dylan Bundy has been atrocious himself coming into this contest with a 6.56 road ERA and 5.55 ERA in day games this season. With both bullpens also ranking in the league's bottom half, I love the over in this contest.

Prediction: Over 9.5
