San Francisco Giants (56-87) at Chicago White Sox (54-86)
MLB: Sunday, September 10, 2:10 PM EST at Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois
The Line: N/A
Two of the worst teams in the MLB, the Chicago White Sox and the San Francisco Giants, face off in game 3 from the Guaranteed Rate Field on Sunday afternoon. Left-handed Madison Bumgarner will start for the Giants and Carson Fulmer for the White Sox.
Giants win successive games
The San Francisco Giants are still struggling to reach 0.400. Unsurprisingly, their inconsistency is to blame. They have won their last two games but lost seven in eight games prior to that.
Their batting has been woeful; only the San Diego Padres have worse numbers. The Giants have hit 563 runs (29th) with a batting average of .248 (23rd) with an on-base percentage of .309 (29th) and a slugging percentage of .380 (30th).
Their pitching stats are slightly better. They have an ERA of 4.56 (18th) with a WHIP of 1.40 (22nd) and a BAA of .271 (28th).
White Sox can’t escape losing rut
Either side of a pair of wins against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Chicago White Sox have suffered nothing but pain. They have lost nine of their last 11 games, falling well below 0.400 in the process (54-86 currently).
Their batting has failed to improve through the season. They have hit 589 runs (26th) with an on-base percentage of .312 (26th) and a slugging percentage of .414 (23rd).
Pitching wise, they have an ERA of 4.88 (27th) with a WHIP of 1.45 (also 27th) and a BAA of .259 (16th).
San Francisco Giants are:
- 4-10 in their last 14 overall.
- 4-10 in their last 14 games on grass.
- 2-6 in their last 8 games vs. a right-handed starter.
Chicago White Sox are:
- No key trends
The only consistent aspect of these two sides is inconsistent. The Giants enjoyed a strong game 1, but that doesn’t mean much. I’m taking the White Sox to get out of their rut with a determined game 3.
