Starting Pitchers: Ariel Miranda (L) 8-6, 4.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP (SEA) v. Cole Hamels (L) 9-3, 4.03 ERA, 1.18 WHIP (TEX)
Money Line: Seattle Mariners +120 | Texas Rangers -140
The Texas Rangers are hosting the Seattle Mariners on Monday. These two clubs are scrapping for a spot in the American League Wild Card. The Rangers are 2.5 games behind the Twins, while the Mariners are 3 games back in the Wild Card Race. Which one of these clubs will inch closer to the postseason with a victory on Monday night in Arlington?
Mariners fall to the Angels
The Seattle Mariners fell short in a 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. The Mariners led for most of the game, but they couldn’t keep up with the Angels in the final innings. Seattle’s lineup has had a tough season. The M’s have the 8th worst slugging percentage (.419) in the majors. They’ll look to bounce back and get back to .500 with a win over the Rangers in Monday’s contest.
Ariel Miranda will be Seattle’s starter in Monday’s showdown with the Texas Rangers. Miranda was impressive in his last start. He kept a very good Astros lineup hitless through 6 innings, and he only allowed one run. However, Miranda walked 6 batters. The southpaw was a victim of poor run support, and he didn’t pick up a win in his impressive start against the Astros. I’m sure he’s hoping that Seattle’s lineup can contribute more in this one.
Rangers stomped by the Yankees
The Texas Rangers fell apart in a 16-7 loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday. It was the second consecutive loss for the Rangers. They simply couldn’t keep up with the Yankees at the plate. The Rangers finished the game with 10 hits, but that wasn’t nearly enough to keep pace with Aaron Judge and company. The Rangers have been pretty good offensively for most of the season. They’ve scored 736 runs this season, which is the fourth-most in the majors.
Cole Hamels gets the nod for the Rangers on Monday. Hamels has had a nice season in 2017, but he struggled in his last start against the Braves in Atlanta. The left-hander 6 hits, 2 walks, and 5 runs in 6 innings in a loss to the Braves. Hamels has lost his last two decisions. He’ll try to get back to winning as he takes on the Mariners in front of his home crowd in Arlington.
The Seattle Mariners are:
- 2-6 in their last 8 games following a loss.
- 0-5 in their last 5 road games.
- 2-5 in Miranda’s last 7 starts on grass.
- 0-5 in Miranda’s last 5 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance.
The Texas Rangers are:
- 4-0 in their last 4 during game 1 of a series.
- 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a left-handed starter.
- 15-1 in Hamels’ last 16 home starts vs. a team with a losing record.
- 25-6 in Hamels’ last 31 home starts.
Cole Hamels has a stupendous record at home, and he has found success against the Mariners this season. The Rangers are 4-1 in Hamels’ last five starts against the Mariners. He’s 6-0 with a 3.39 ERA at home this season. The Mariners are just 3-9 in their last 12 visits to Arlington. I like the Texas Rangers to beat the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.
