Over/Under: 8.5

The Los Angeles Angels are hosting the Houston Astros in this AL West matchup. The Angels are trying to make up ground in the American League Wild Card standings. They’re a game behind the Minnesota Twins for the second spot in the Wild Card. Meanwhile, the Houston Astros are close to clinching the division. They’re 13 games ahead of the Halos. Which one of these division rivals will get a win on Wednesday?

Astros swept in Oakland

The Houston Astros came up short once again, falling 10-2 to the Oakland Athletics at the Coliseum on Sunday. The loss to the A’s was their fourth consecutive. Houston’s lineup disappointed in Sunday’s loss. They finished the game with just 8 hits. The Astros have been the best offensive team in the Major Leagues. They’ve scored 788 runs in 2017. The Astros are hoping to bounce back from their poor performance in Oakland with a win over the Angels in Anaheim.

Lance McCullers will get the nod for the Astros on Wednesday. McCullers has had a nice season. However, he hasn’t won a game in over a month. His last start against the Mariners in Seattle resulted in a no-decision. The right-hander gave up 4 hits, a walk, and 3 runs against the M’s. McCullers will try to get back to winning as the Astros head to Anaheim in this one.

Angels fly past the Mariners

The Los Angeles Angels picked up a crucial 5-3 victory over the Mariners in Seattle on Sunday. The victory snapped LA’s three-game losing streak. The Halos have nearly a 30% chance of making the postseason. The Angels need to keep winning games if they expect to sneak into the postseason. They’ve won three consecutive games at home. They’ll be trying to win their fourth in a row as the Astros roll into town.

Tyler Skaggs will be LA’s starter on Wednesday night. Skaggs has had a horrific season thus far. The left-hander had a decent outing in his last start against the A’s, but he was a victim of poor run support. Skaggs pitched 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs. He has lost his last four decisions. The southpaw will look to snap his losing streak as he takes on Houston’s dangerous lineup.

The Houston Astros are:

  • 4-0 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series.
  • 6-1 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
  • 21-6 in their last 27 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • 9-3 in their last 12 vs. a team with a winning record.

The Los Angeles Angels are:

  •  2-6 in their last 8 during game 2 of a series.
  • 1-4 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.

The Astros have had some success in Anaheim. They’re 8-3 in their last 11 visits to Angel Stadium. Lance McCullers has had two fantastic starts against the Angels this season. He hasn’t allowed LA’s lineup to score a run in 13 2/3 innings. Meanwhile, Tyler Skaggs was lit up by the Astros earlier this season. I like the Astros to win this one in Anaheim on Wednesday.
