Starting Pitchers: Dinelson Lamet (R) 7-7, 4.32 ERA, 1.20 WHIP (SD) v. Ervin Santana (R) 15-7, 3.45 ERA, 1.15 WHIP (MIN)

Money Line: San Diego Padres +134 | Minnesota Twins -149

Over/Under: 9.0

The Minnesota Twins are hosting the San Diego Padres in this interleague matchup. The Twins are working towards a postseason berth. They’re currently 4 games behind the first place New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card standings, and they hold a one game lead over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Padres, on the other hand, are 14 games behind the Colorado Rockies in the National League Wild Card race. Will the Twins maintain a spot in the AL Wild Card game with a win over the Padres on Wednesday?

Padres winning streak snapped in Phoenix

The San Diego Padres came up short in a 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Padres, and it also prevented San Diego from sweeping the D’backs in Phoenix. The Padres have really struggled with consistency in 2017. They have one of the worst offenses in Major League Baseball, and San Diego’s lineup must step up in order to get back to winning in this trip up to Minneapolis.

Dinelson Lamet will get the nod for the Padres in Wednesday’s showdown with the Minnesota Twins. Lamet has had a decent rookie season thus far. His record has hovered above .500 for much of the year, but he dropped to 7-7 after a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in his last start. Lamet wasn’t to blame for the loss. He only allowed 3 hits and 2 runs in six innings against the Cards. He simply didn’t get enough run support to pick up a win. The right-handed rookie will try to bounce back as he takes the hill at Target Field on Wednesday.

Twins throttle the Royals

The Minnesota Twins were extremely disappointed in their 11-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. It was Minnesota’s second consecutive loss. The Twins really struggled at the plate. They only had 8 hits in the loss. Minnesota’s lineup has relied on Brian Dozier throughout the year. Dozier leads the Twins in home runs (29) and RBIs (82).

The Twins are sending Ervin Santana out to the mound in this matchup with San Diego. Santana has had a phenomenal season. The right-handed veteran picked up a win in his last start against the Royals in Kansas City. Santana pitched five innings, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. Santana has won four consecutive decisions. He’ll look to win his fifth straight as he takes on the Padres in this one.

Trends

The San Diego Padres are:

  • 3-9 in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
  • 2-7 in their last 9 interleague games vs. a team with a winning record.
  • 1-7 in their last 8 interleague road games.

The Minnesota Twins are:

  • 4-1 in their last 5 interleague games vs. a team with a losing record.

The Twins have been terrific at home as of late. They’ve won 8 of their last 10 games at Target Field. Meanwhile, the Padres have gone just 2-4 in their last six games on the road. Ervin Santana shined in his first start against the San Diego Padres. He pitched a complete game, giving up just 4 hits and 2 runs. Additionally, Santana fanned 9 batters. I like the Twins to win this one behind a strong outing from Ervin Santana.
