The San Diego Padres and the St. Louis Cardinals resume a big three-game NL series Saturday night from Busch Stadium. Yu Davish is looking to rebound from another rough outing for San Diego. The Cardinals give the starting nod to Adam Wainwright who is targeting a sixth consecutive victory. The Padres lead the season series by a 3-1 count after the Cards registered an 8-2 win on Friday.

Darvish Struggles Again, Padres Continue Road Trip

Yu Darvish will take the mound for the 28th time of the season in this one. Darvish was abysmal in his latest effort, surrendering a remarkable eight runs in four innings against the Giants, and was tagged with another loss to plummet his record to 8-10. The veteran right-hander is having a disastrous season, to say the least. His ERA has dipped to 4.32 along with a 1.09 WHIP in 150 innings pitched. He has enjoyed success against the Cardinals, posting a 2-2 record and a 3.13 ERA.

The Padres have been a huge disappointment and are fortunate to be in the Wildcard picture. They thwarted a five-game slide with a 9-6 win against the Giants on Wednesday and stand at 2-5 on their current nine-game road trip which included a sweep at Dodger Stadium.

The Padres have been inconsistent at the dish however Fernando Tatis Jr. is doing his job, delivering with 10 RBI’s and a 1.00 OPS this month. The 22-year old star has bashed 38 taters accompanied by 91 RBI’s and a .1.001 OPS. Tatis did not play in the first series against the Cards.

San Diego is scoring an average of 4.54 runs per game, ranking them 14th in the Majors. They have filed a 3.88 team ERA, good for 10th overall.

Wainwright Targets Sixth Consecutive Win

The Cards will have a thriving Adam Wainwright on the hill for the 30th time of the year. Wainwright was tremendous in his previous start, recording six shutout innings against the Mets, and was awarded another win to improve his record to 16-7. The veteran right-hander is still an ace at the age of 40, reporting a stifling 2.88 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 190.1 innings of action. Wainwright squandered six runs in his lone meeting against SD this season and is 7-5 with a 2.71 ERA in 86.1 career frames against the foes.

The Cardinals' late-season magic continues. They dealt the Mets a sweep this week, outscoring them 25-10. They have rallied into a Wildcard spot entering Friday night. The outstanding pitching has propelled them to a 7-3 record in their last 10 games overall.

Tyler O’Neil has played a big part in the Cardinals' recent success. The 26-year old slugger has three homers along with seven RBI’s in his last eight games. O’Neil could reach 30 homers and he has 26 accompanied by 61 RBI’s and an .876 OPS on the year. He is 4 for 9 against the Padres this season.

St. Louis is averaging 4.20 runs per game, ranking them 24th overall. The pitching staff features a 4.03 team ERA, placing them 14th in the bigs.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Cardinals continue to dazzle, winning six consecutive games overall, and have climbed into the second NL Wildcard spot. Meanwhile, the Padres once held a comfortable lead in the Wildcard but now continue to stumble, losing six out of their last eight games.

Furthermore, Padres’ starter Yu Darvish has been awful and can't be trusted. He just surrendered eight runs to the Giants last time out. Darvish has now squandered four or more runs in six out of his last eight starts. Cards’ starter Adam Wainwright has been incredible, conceding two or fewer runs in seven out of his last eight starts.

Prediction: St. Louis Cardinals -115

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I am opting for the over in this one. The over has been a lock with Darvish on the mound. I expect his struggles to continue against a hot Cardinals offense. They just accumulated 25 runs in three games against the Mets prior to this series and eight on Friday. The over is 4-0 in Darvish’s last four starts.

In addition, the Padres should make some noise at the plate. They scored six runs against Wainwright in the first meeting and have registered 25 runs in four clashes against St. Louis. The over is 5-1 in the Padres’ last six games and a convincing 6-1-1 in the last eight meetings between these foes.

Prediction: Over 8

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The over on the Cardinals team total will deliver. Yu Darvish especially has issues on the road where he has tallied an ERA over six. Also, San Diego has allowed five or more runs in six out of their last seven games overall and St. Louis is in a groove at the plate.

Prediction: Cardinals Team Total Over 3.5

First Five Innings Prop Prediction

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I expect a scoreless first inning. Yu Darvish has fared well in the opening frame where he owns a decent 3.67 ERA on the season. Wainwright is tough to solve in the first inning where he features an outstanding 1.86 ERA.

Prediction: A Run in the First Inning No
