Detroit Tigers (69-79) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (90-57)
The Major League Baseball betting action goes on Monday, September 18, 2023, with an 11-game card including the interleague showdown from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, so we bring you the best Tigers vs. Dodgers betting pick.
The Cats meet the Boys in Blue for the first time this season. Last year, the Dodgers took two out of three from the Tigers, and the Boys in Blue have won four of their previous six encounters with Detroit.
The Tigers eye their second straight series win
Sunday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the 69-79 Detroit Tigers visited the Los Angeles Angels for the closing clash of a three-game series. The Cats were searching for their fourth straight victory, hoping to sweep the Halos at Angel Stadium. After an 11-2 dismantling of the Angels on Friday night, the Tigers won Saturday’s middle contest 5-4 in ten innings.
The Tigers are slashing .239/.323/.368 with 16 extra-base hits and 12 home runs in the past two weeks and 410 at-bats. Their pitching staff has been outstanding during that span, posting a 3.08 ERA to go with a 1.09 WHIP and a .197 batting average against.
Eduardo Rodriguez will toe the rubber Monday in LA, and the 30-year-old southpaw is 11-8 with a solid 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 132/42 K/BB ratio in 23 starts (135.2 innings pitched) this season. However, Rodriguez hasn’t been at his best of late, surrendering 12 earned runs on 19 hits and 15 walks over his previous four outings and 22.2 innings of work. Last Wednesday, he was charged with a loss in a 4-3 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds, allowing four earned runs on four hits and a whopping five walks across 5.1 innings.

The Dodgers need to stabilize their form
The 90-57 Los Angeles Dodgers played the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon, looking to sweep a three-game set at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. After a tremendous August, the Dodgers have struggled a bit so far this month, losing seven of their first 14 outings in September. Last Saturday, the Dodgers outlasted the Mariners 6-2 in 11 innings to clinch the NL West title.
The Boys in Blue are hitting .271/.360/.443 with 22 extra-base hits and 16 home runs in the last couple of weeks and 420 at-bats. On the pitching side of things, they’ve compiled a 4.19 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a .231 batting average in that span.
Lance Lynn is projected to take the mound Monday, though the Dodgers haven’t announced who’ll get the starting call and could opt for a bullpen day. Lynn (11-11; 5.94 ERA; 1.40 WHIP) has gone 5-2 with a 4.60 ERA and 6.43 FIP since joining the Dodgers at the trade deadline (eight starts, 47 innings pitched). He pitched well last Tuesday, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a couple of walks across seven frames of work in an 11-2 thrashing of the San Diego Padres.

Insiders Status:
If Lance Lynn gets the nod, I’m expecting the veteran righty to fare well in this matchup. Lynn met the Tigers in May and earned a win in the White Sox’s 12-3 victory at Comerica Park in Detroit. He gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits and five walks across six innings of work. The current Tigers are only 15-for-71 with four doubles against Lynn.
On the other side, the current Dodgers are 20-for-57 with three doubles and a home run versus Eduardo Rodriguez. The Dodgers have registered a 113 wRC+ against the southpaws in the last ten days, and I’m looking for their offense to make a difference. The Tigers have recorded an 80 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers over the last ten days.
Full-Game Total Pick
Insiders Status:
These two bullpens have done a good job over the last ten days. The Tigers have accounted for a sturdy 2.62 ERA and 2.82 FIP in 34.1 innings of work, and the Dodgers ‘pen has registered a shiny 1.31 ERA and 2.24 FIP across 34.1 innings pitched. Hereof, I’m going with the under.
It’s a tricky wager because of the Dodgers’ mighty offense. Nine of LA’s previous 11 games have produced nine or more runs in total. Hopefully, the Dodgers’ pitching staff won’t allow the Tigers too many chances.
