San Francisco Giants (76-74) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (79-72)
The battle for the 2023 Major League Baseball postseason continues Tuesday, September 19, with the NL West showdown from Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, so we bring you the best Giants vs. Diamondbacks betting pick.
San Francisco and Arizona open a two-game set in Phoenix. The Diamondbacks are listed as -145 moneyline favorites, while the totals sit at 8.5 runs. San Francisco is 6-5 against Arizona this season.
The Giants continue a ten-game road trip
The San Francisco Giants are coming off Sunday’s 11-10 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The Giants avoided a sweep in a four-game series at Coors Field in Colorado, Denver, and moved to 76-74 on the season. They were two games behind the final wild card in the National League on Monday morning.
The Giants have gone 6-4 over their last ten games overall. They’ve scored 56 runs during that stretch while posting a .290/.372/.464 triple-slash and a 132 wRC+. Still, keep in mind that seven of those ten contests have come against the Rockies’ lousy pitching staff.
On the pitching side of things, the Giants have recorded a 3.53 ERA, 3.20 FIP, and 1.25 WHIP over their last ten outings. Alex Cobb will be on the bump Tuesday at Chasse Field, and the 35-year-old right-hander carries a 7-6 record with a 3.62 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 27 starts (149.1 innings pitched) this season. Over his last four starts, Cobb has allowed nine runs (seven earned) on 15 hits and two walks across 22 innings of work.
Cobb is 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in two starts against the Diamondbacks in 2023 (13.1 IP). He blanked the D-backs across 7.1 innings at Chase Field on May 11 to earn a win in a 6-2 victory. Back on the first day of August, Cobb pitched six frames of a three-run, four-hit ball in a no-decision against Arizona at home.

The Diamondbacks eye their fourth straight W
The Arizona Diamondbacks improved to 79-72 on the season following Sunday’s 6-2 victory to the Chicago Cubs. The D-backs swept a three-game home set against the Cubbies to leapfrog Chicago in the National League standings and take the second wild-card spot.
Arizona has won eight of its past 12 contests overall. The Diamondbacks have accounted for 53 runs in that stretch while tallying a .242/.327/.357 slash line and an 89 wRC+. On the other side of the ball, they’ve compiled a 3.96 ERA, 4.50 FIP, and 1.29 WHIP.
Zac Gallen will toe the slab on Tuesday. The 28-year-old right-hander is 15-8 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 31 starts (192.2 IP) in 2023. Gallen hasn’t been at his best of late despite throwing a complete game shutout against the Cubs on September 8. He’s allowed a whopping 18 runs (17 earned) on 28 hits and seven walks over his previous four outings and 24.2 innings of work.
Gallen is 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in two starts against the Giants this season. After throwing 7.2 innings of a two-run ball in a winning effort at home on May 13, Gallen tossed six frames of a three-run, seven-hit ball in a no-decision at Oracle Park in San Francisco on August 1.
Best Bets for this Game
Full-Game Side Bet
Insiders Status:
We’ll see a great pitching duel between Alex Cobb and Zac Gallen, so I’m not expecting to see a lot of runs in this game. Neither side has impressed at the plate as of late and given the high stakes, I would stay away from the side bet. Frankly, this contest could easily go either way.
I’m going with the Diamondbacks because of Zac Gallen even though he’s struggled over the last couple of weeks. Gallen has been a true ace for most of the season, and the current Giants are only 34-for-152 with ten doubles and two home runs against him. On the other side, the current D-backs are 30-for-108 with three doubles and four dingers versus Alex Cobb.
Full-Game Total Pick
Insiders Status:
Over the last ten days, the Diamondbacks bullpen has gone 4-0 with two saves and a 2.45 ERA. On the other side, the Giants’ relievers have accounted for a 3-2 record with three saves and a 4.31 ERA. Hereof, give me the under on the totals, as I’m expecting the starting duo to fare well in this matchup.
During that span, Arizona has registered a 58 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers, whereas San Francisco has recorded a 119 wRC+ versus the righties. But as I’ve already mentioned, the Giants have played seven games against the Rockies over the last ten days.
