Money Line: Texas Rangers +135 | Seattle Mariners -150
The Seattle Mariners are hosting the Texas Rangers in this AL West matchup in the Emerald City. These two division rivals are fighting for a spot in the playoffs. The Mariners are 3.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins in the American League Wild Card standings. Meanwhile, the Rangers are just 3 games behind the Twins. Which one of these clubs will get an important victory on Thursday night?
Rangers top the M’s
The Texas Rangers came up with an impressive 8-6 victory over the Mariners on Wednesday night. The Rangers finished the game with only eight hits, but they made the most of them. The Texas lineup broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning. The Rangers have been one of the best offensive teams in the majors. They’ve scored 762 runs this season, which is the seventh-most in the majors.
Cole Hamels will get the start for the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. Hamels has had a pretty solid season. He looked good in his last start against the Angels in Anaheim. Hamels only gave up 4 hits and 2 runs in 7 1/3 innings of action. However, he was a victim of poor run support. Hamels lost that game despite his terrific performance. He’ll try to bounce back as he takes on the M’s in this one.
Mariners lose again
The Seattle Mariners continued to struggle on Wednesday, losing 8-6 to the Texas Rangers. It was Seattle’s fourth consecutive loss. The Mariners are slowly sliding down the American League Wild Card standings. The M’s have only won two home games in the past three weeks. They’ll try to get back on track and avoid getting swept in Thursday’s matchup with the Rangers.
James Paxton will be Seattle’s starter on Thursday night. Paxton has had a great season. However, the left-hander didn’t last long in his last start, a loss to the Astros in Houston. Paxton gave up 4 hits, 2 walks, and 3 runs in only 1 1/3 innings. The veteran southpaw hasn’t won a game at home since the end of July. The fans at Safeco will be hoping that Paxton can give them a much-needed win in this matchup with the Rangers.
The Texas Rangers are:
- 5-1 in their last six road games against a left-handed starter
- 8-3 in their last eleven games against a left-handed starter
- 29-7 in Hamels’ last 36 games against a team with a losing record
The Seattle Mariners are:
- 0-5 in their last five games on grass
- 0-4 in Paxton’s last four Thursday starts
The Mariners have been reeling lately. They’ve lost five consecutive games. Furthermore, the M’s have gone just 2-5 in their last seven games at Safeco Field. The Rangers are 7-3 in Hamels’ last 10 starts against the Mariners. Meanwhile, the Mariners are just 1-4 in James Paxton’s last five starts against the Rangers. I like the Texas Rangers to win this one in Seattle.
