The San Francisco Giants (73-77, 71-79 RL, 69-73-8 O/U) battle the Arizona Diamondbacks (70-80, 86-65 RL, 67-78-8 O/U) as the division rivals open a three-game series on Friday evening. The Giants will give the nod to Carlos Rodon. The Diamondbacks have yet to name a starter. The Diamondbacks lead the season series 8-5.

Rodon Starts, Giants Sweep Rockies

The Giants will have Carlos Rodon on the hill to begin the series. Rodon was stellar in his previous start, limiting the Braves to only one run in five innings, and registered the win to lift his record to 13-8. The Giants’ ace features a minuscule 1.10 ERA this month and has posted a stifling 2.84 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in 167.2 innings of work on the season. Rodon has not fared well against the Diamondbacks this season, allowing 10 runs with an 0-2 in 17 innings, marking his only three career meetings against the foes.

The Giants were issued a sweep by the Dodgers last weekend and rebounded with a convincing four-game sweep against the Rockies at Coors Field this week. The bats have been inconsistent recently and they stand at 6-4 in their last ten games.

Wilmer Flores has broken out of his slump at the plate, collecting four RBIs in his last five games. The veteran second baseman recently signed a contract extension and has 19 big flies along with 69 RBIs and a .731 OPS on the year. Flores has delivered five RBIs against the Diamondbacks.

The Giants are scoring an average of 4.38 runs per game, rankings them 13th overall. The pitching staff has posted a 3.86-team ERA, good for 11th in the big leagues.

Diamondbacks Earn Two Wins vs. Dodgers

The Diamondbacks were supposed to have Ryne Nelson on the hill, but unfortunately, the rookie is headed to the IL. It could be a bullpen start. The Arizona bullpen is well below average, recording a 4.55 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. Joe Mantiply is their best reliever, sporting a 2.79 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 58 innings of work.

The Diamondbacks have struggled against strong opponents. They have played the L.A, and Padres, followed by another series with the Dodgers. They were competitive against the Dodgers this week, winning two of the first four meetings at Dodger Stadium entering Thursday's series finale.

Ketel Marte has been a tough out against the Giants this season, logging a .281 average with a .986 OPS. The 28-year-old second baseman is having an inconsistent season and has 12 homers with 52 RBIs on the season. Marte has recorded seven RBIs and a .659 on the month.

Arizona is averaging 4.38 runs on the season landing them 15th overall. The pitching staff is carrying a 4.25 team ERA, positioning them 23rd in the Major Leagues.

Best Bets for this Game

Insiders Status:

Carlos Rodon continues to dominate. The ace has only allowed two runs in his last three starts spanning 16.1 innings, resulting in a minuscule 1.10 ERA. The Diamondbacks are struggling to win games recently. They have lost five consecutive series and have dropped five out of their last seven home games.

Furthermore, the Giants should have a big night at the plate. Ryne Nelson was the projected starter but has landed on the IL. Tommy Henry is now listed to start. Henry has a 5.50 ERA and does not usually go deep into games. The Giants' bats are clicking, scoring 25 runs in their last four games. They just issued a four-game road sweep of the Rockies.

Prediction: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (-105)

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I expect this one to go over. While Carlos Rodon will at least contain Arizona and lead his team to victory, he has not fared particularly well against the Diamondbacks' offense, conceding 10 runs in 17 innings against the rivals this season.

In addition, the Giants' hot offense will resume their scoring barrage. They have scored at least five runs in three out of their last four road games. Arizona is likely using the bullpen for the entirety of the game. This is not ideal considering the bullpen has fielded a poor 4.55 ERA on the season.

Prediction: Over 8
