The National League East meets the National League West this evening as the Philadelphia Phillies invade Coors Field in Denver Colorado, to rumble with the Colorado Rockies. This is game one of a four-game series. Pitching Probables: Zach Eflin (11-7, 4.09 ERA) will take the hill for the Phillies and he will be opposed by Tyler Anderson (6-9, 4.76 ERA).
Better Luck Next Year Philadelphia
The Phillies were in the race for a playoff spot for much of the year, but they just ran out of gas in the end. The Phils still had a chance as they entered their four-game series with the braves at just 5.5 games out of first, but they lost all four games and have been officially eliminated from playoff contention. They will regroup and be far better next year. This is a team on the rise. They enter off a 2-1 loss to the Braves and their lone run came on Scott Kingery’s 8th homer of the year. Aaron Nola took the loss after allowing two ERs on four hits and a walk while striking out six in 6.0 innings of work. He is now at 16-6 with a 2.45 ERA on the year and is likely out of the Cy Young award conversation. The Phillies have averaged 3.90 rpg and have allowed 4.44 rpg on the road so far.
The Phillies will be sending out Zach Eflin in this one and he has gone 11-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 23 starts on the year, including 3-4 with a 5.07 ERA in 11 starts on the road. In his career, he has gone 6-9 with a 5.57 ERa in 24 starts on the road and 2-2 with a 4.66 ERA in four starts during Sept/ Oct. Eflin has gone 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA in two career starts against the Rockies, including 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in one start here at Coors.
Rockies Complete Three-Game Sweep Of The D-Backs
The Colorado Rockies are still in the race for a playoff spot as they are just 1.5 games out of first in the National League West and 1.5 games out of a wildcard slot. They will need the Cardinals and Dodgers to start losing, but for now, all they can do is keep winning. They have a chance to do so as the Phillies have not been a good road team this year and they have run out of gas down the stretch. The Rockies completed their three-game sweep against the D-Dacks with a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon. Kyle Freeland had a strong outing in the win as he allowed just seven hits and a walk while striking out six in 7.0 innings of work. He is now at 16-7 with a 2.84 ERA on the year, while picking up his 41st save was Wade Davis. Driving in their runs in the win was Nolan Arenado and Gerardo Parra. The Rockies have averaged 5.23 rpg and have allowed 5.18 rpg here at home for the year.
Toeing the slab for the Rockies will be Tyler Anderson and he has gone 6-9 with a 4.76 ERA in 31 starts on the year, including 2-6 with a 4.52 ERA in 16 starts here at home. In his career, he has gone 10-11 with a 3.87 ERA in 36 games (35 starts) here at home and 3-4 with a 3.19 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) during Sept/ Oct, while against the Phillies he has gone 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA in four starts.

- The Under is 5-1-1 in their last seven road games vs. a left-handed starter.
- The Under is 8-2 in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning record
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Rockies still have plenty to play for, while the Phillies have nothing to play for. Philadelphia has struggled on the road this year and the Rockies come in with some momentum after their sweep of the D-Backs on the road. Tyler Anderson has struggled at home, but Zach Eflin has a 5.07 ERA on the road and the Rockies have averaged over 5.00 rpg at home. Colorado needs this game in the worst way an I will look for them to get it against a deflated Philadelphia squad.
Prediction: Colorado -137
Full-Game Total Pick
Rockie home games have not been as high scoring as in the past and I do not see this game reaching double figures art all. The Philadelphia offense has struggled of late and the Colorado Pitching has been better of late. Eflin has a 5.07 ERA on the road, but his road starts have averaged just 8.64 rpg. Anderson’s home games have averaged 10.44 rpg, but we note that their opponents have averaged 6.69 rpg in his home starts and the Phillies won’t come close to that. We also note that the Rockies have averaged just 3.75 rpg for Anderson at home. I like the under in this one… A LOT.
Prediction: Under 11
First Five Innings Side Pick
Tyler Anderson has struggled at home this year, but Zach Eflin has been no prize for the Phillies on the road. The Rockies need to keep winning and they are 25-11 in their last 36 home games. I will look for them to get out to the quick start in this one.
Prediction: Colorado -155
First Five Innings Total Bet
The Phillies have nothing to play for anymore, while the Rockies are home off a long road trip. This game should have a sluggish start to it, despite the fact that both starters have struggled this year. Take the Under is the first five of this one.
Prediction: Under 6
