Tonight on the MLB diamond a pair of teams from the National League East will square off as the Atlanta Braves rumble with the New York Mets. This is game one3 of a three-game series from Citi Field in New York. Pitching Probables: The Braves will be sending out Touki Toussaint (2-1, 4.30 ERA) and the Mets will counter with Noah Syndergaard (12-4, 3.36 ERA).
Braves Complete Four-Game Sweep Of The Phillies
The Atlanta Braves come in off a four-game home sweep of the Phillies and as a result, they have taken their first National League East title since 2013. Now they have their sights set on getting the number two seed in the NL. They currently lead the Dodgers by a game for that distinction. Atlant would also love to continue to build momentum for the postseason and they have gone 12-4 against the Mets this year. Atlanta took the finale against Philly by a score of 2-1 and having a solid start in the game was Anibal Sanchez, who allowed just one ER on four hits and no walks in 5.0 innings of work. He is now at 7-6 with a 2.96 ERA on the year. He has pitched well this year and will be crucial for them in the postseason. Lane Adams had two hits in the game, including his 2nd homer of the year, while driving in both runs. The Braves have averaged 4.65 rpg and have allowed 3.76 rpg on the road for the year
Taking the hill for the Braves will be Touki Toussaint and he has gone 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA in five games (four starts) in this his first year in the league, including 0-0 with a 3.18 ERA in one start on the road. Toussaint was 9-6 with a 2.38 ERA in 24 starts for Gwinnett (AAA) and Mississippi (AA) this year.
Mets Take Three Of Four From The Nats
The New York Mets have had a bad season, but they did just take three of four from the Nationals on the road. New York is still at 10 games under .500 for the year and 15 games out of first in the National League East. They are just hoping to finish the season strong and a good series over the Braves, who still have something to play for, would be a good start for them. The Mets took the finale against the Nats by a score of 8-6 and leading the way on offense was Michael Conforto, who had two hits and drove in three runs, while Kevin Plawecki had two hits and two RBIs. The Mets had 14 hits and drew nine walks in the game. Steven Matz took a no-decision in the game after allowing three ERs on five hits and three walks in just 3.0 innings of work. Grabbing the win was Drew Gagnon and he is now 2-1 with a 5.23 ERA on the year. The Mets have averaged 3.48 rpg and have allowed 3.92 rpg here at home for the year.
Getting the nod for the Mets will be Noah Syndergaard and he has gone 12-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 23 starts on the year, including 7-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 11 starts here at home. In his career, he has gone 21-10 with a 2.81 ERA in 44 games (43 starts) here at Citi Field and 6-4 with a 2.72 ERA in 15 starts during Sept/ Oct, while against the Braves he has gone 0-2 with a 4.13 ERA in six starts.
New York is:
- 9-3 in Syndergaard’s last 12 starts when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game
- 6-0 in Syndergaard’s last 6 home starts
- The Over is 8-3-1 in their last 12 home games vs. a right-handed starter
- The Over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 home games
- None Available
- The Over is 5-1 in their last 6 during game 1 of a series
- The Over is 8-2 in their last 10 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Mets just played well in a series against the Nationals and I will look for them to take game one of this series. They have Noah Syndergaard on the mound and he has gone 7-1 with a 3.55 ERA here at home. Touki Toussaint has not pitched that badly in his brief career, but still, this is just his second start on the road and the Mets have been playing much better down the stretch. I feel that New York can steal this one from an Atlanta team that needs the game badly.
Prediction: New York -145
Full-Game Total Pick
Syndergaard has a good 3.55 ERA at home, but still, his home starts have averaged 8.36 rpg, while his night starts have averaged 8.57 rpg. Toussaint has a 4.30 ERA on the year and his starts have averaged 11.00 rpg, while his lone road start put up 14 runs. The Mets have averaged a decent 4.20 rpg in their last 10 games, while the Braves have put up 5.00 rpg over his last 10. I will look for this one to go Over the total and the clincher is the fact that the Over is 6-1 in Over last 7 games following an off day.
Prediction: Over 7
Full-Game Prop Bet
Hard to expect many runs in this park with Syndergaard on the mound, but I do expect many runs and hits in this one. Syndergaard is not perfect at home as he has a 3.55 ERA here and the Met offense has been solid of late and should get to Toussaint.
Prediction: R/H/E Over 24
First Five Innings Side Pick
The Braves still need to keep winning, but Syndergaard has been solid at home and the Mets have been playing better down the stretch. Look for the Mets to hold a lead at the midway point of this one.
Prediction: New York -160
First Five Innings Total Bet
The Mets have averaged a decent 4.20 rpg over their last 10 games, while the Braves have put up 5.00 rpg over their last 10. I see a good offensive starts to this one.
Prediction: Over 3.5
