Orlando Magic (12-30 SU, 15-26-1 ATS, 19-23 O/U) at Washington Wizards (23-18 SU, 19-22 ATS, 15-25-1 O/U)

Line: Washington -10.5

Total: 220

Washington, one of the league’s most erratic teams, faces Orlando on Friday night. The Magic have lost six straight and appear ready to take Marvin Bagley III or Trae Young in this year’s NBA Draft. Washington is coming off another woeful home loss against a decimated Utah team on Wednesday, falling 107-104 from Capital One Arena. In their first meeting, the Wiz hammered the Magic, 130-103.

There’s little Magic in Orlando

With Nikola Vucevic (17.4ppg, 9.3rpg) out until late February with a hand injury, Orlando has few inside options. At times, the Magic have been very competitive a 110-103 loss at Milwaukee on Jan. 10. They were also blown out at home against Houston by 18 on Jan. 3 and by 15 at Dallas on Jan. 9. Evan Fournier led the way with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Bismack Biyombo and Marreese Speights added 14 points apiece. Fournier could be on the block, which isn’t surprising when a team has no hope in the present and is trying to get rid of payroll. Fournier is a good shooter, who’s averaging 17.8 points per game on 46.4 percent shooting (39.6% 3pt).

Orlando shot just 43.3 percent from the field and 8-of-29 from 3-point range against the Bucks. They allow Milwaukee to shoot 55.6 percent from the field and were outrebounded by 12. Aaron Gordon leads the Magic with 18.9 points per game with 7.9 rebounds, but went just 4-of-18 from the field against the Bucks, scoring 11 points and grabbing four boards. On the season. Orlando is averaging 104.9 points per game on 45.5 percent shooting (35.3% 3pt). They are allowing 110.8 points per game on 47.2 percent shooting (38.2% 3pt).

Wiz continue to baffle

After winning four straight games, Washington has dropped two straight at home. Falling to Milwaukee by seven on Saturday was understandable. But losing to a Utah team at home on Wednesday without big men Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors was inexplicable but that typifies Washington’s first half. The Wiz led at the half by four but fell apart in the third quarter, giving up 37 points. They down for most of the fourth before taking two one-point leads. They kept coughing up leads, going up 102-101 with 1:22 left on a John Wall three-pointer. But the Jazz responded with a three from Joe Ingles, who was wide open after Kelly Oubre gambled for a steal. Down 107-104 with 7.6 seconds left, Brad Beal had a chance to tie the game on a 3-pointer but bobbled the ball with Donovan Mitchell in front of him and never got a shot off.

Wall scored 35 points and dished out 11 assists, but also had eight turnovers. That was the main problem for the Wizards, as they turned it over 23 times. Beal had 23 points, seven assists and five boards but continues to struggle in late-game situations. Shooting was not an issue for the Wiz, who made 52.6 percent from the field and 10-of-25 from beyond the arc (40%). Washington averages 106.4 points per game on 46.2 percent shooting (36.9% 3pt). They allow 104.1 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting (33.4% 3pt).

NBA Trends:

Orlando is:

  • 1-5 ATS last 6 road games.
  • 13-37-2 ATS last 52 after an ATS win.
  • 6-16 ATS last 22 vs. Eastern Conference.

Washington is:

  • 6-2 ATS last 8 in series.
  • 9-3-1 ATS last 13 at home in series.

Washington has pretty much dominated Orlando over the years. Sure, they could come up with another disoriented effort against a bad team. But Orlando is not Utah. Gordon, Fournier and Elfrid Payton are the only players they have. That’s not exactly the Big Three of Otto Porter, Wall and Beal. Washington takes care of business at home.

Pick: Washington Wizards
