It’s a battle of Eastern Conference teams in the nation’s capital on the hardwood. The Toronto Raptors are on the road as they travel to face the Washington Wizards Sunday afternoon. Toronto comes in off a 122-105 home win over Brooklyn Friday night in their last game. Washington defeated Milwaukee 113-106 at home Friday night in their last contest. The Raptors lead the all-time regular-season series between the teams 50-37 and have taken the last three meetings, including a 125-107 home win in the last matchup on November 23, 2018.

Toronto Raptors Look to Maintain Eastern Conference Lead

Toronto picked up their fourth straight win as they took down the Nets in a divisional matchup Friday night. The Raptors entered Saturday with a 1.5 game edge on the Bucks for the top spot in the Eastern Conference: they led the Atlantic Division by 4.5 games over the 76ers. Toronto trailed by seven after the opening quarter but regrouped by outscoring the Nets 36-18 in the second to take an 11 point halftime edge. Toronto then put the game away with a 35-22 edge in the third quarter. The Raptors shot 45.7 percent from the field, including 11 of 35 from three point range, and forced 17 turnovers in the win. Kawhi Leonard led the team with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Toronto is 9-12-1 ATS on the road this season while the over is 12-10 in those games.

The Raptors currently are 7th in the league by averaging 113.4 points per game. Toronto stands in the middle of the pack in the league on the glass, ranking 16th with 45 boards per game. The Raptors are 16th in the league in assists with 24.2 dimes a night. Toronto is 9th in scoring defense as they give up 107.8 points per game. Kawhi Leonard leads the team with 27.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Kyle Lowry contributes 14.1 points plus 9.6 assists a night while Serge Ibaka (16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.4 blocks) and Fred VanVleet (10.5 points, 4.5 assists) are solid contributors. Danny Green (9.5 points), Pascal Siakam (15 points, 6.6 rebounds), Jonas Valanciunas (12.8 points, 7.2 boards), OG Anunoby, Norman Powell and Delon Wright are all valuable pieces in the rotation for coach Nick Nurse. The Raptors are tied for 6th in the league in field goal percentage by shooting 47.4 percent from the field. Toronto is 11th in the league by sinking 11.3 three-pointers per game. The Raptors are 23rd in the league in three-point shooting as they hit 34.3 percent from beyond the arc. Valanciunas (dislocated thumb) is out until early February.

Washington Wizards Seek to Take Down Second Straight Division Leader

Washington managed to pick up their second straight win as they downed the Bucks, who were minus Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Wizards entered Saturday 10th in the Eastern Conference, two games behind the Hornets for the final playoff spot. Washington trailed Miami by 3.5 games in the Southeast Division race. The Wizards led by 14 after the opening quarter and regained the lead after Milwaukee rallied to tie the game midway through the third quarter. Washington shot 48.8 percent from the field, including 18 of 33 from three point range, and overcame 16 turnovers. Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 32 points while Tomas Satoransky posted a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. Washington is 12-8 ATS at home this season while the over is 13-7 in those games.

The Wizards are 8th in the league in scoring offense with 113 points per game. Washington is 28th in the league on the glass with 40.7 boards per game. The Wizards are 10th with 25.3 assists per game. Washington is 29th in the league as they allow 116.3 points per game on the year. Bradley Beal leads the Wizards with 24.4 points per game. Markieff Morris (11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds) and Jeff Green (11.6 points) are solid contributors for the Wizards. Dwight Howard (12.8 points, 9.2 rebounds), Otto Porter Jr. (12.2 points), Trevor Ariza (11.2 points, 5.6 rebounds), Sam Dekker, Tomas Satoransky and Ian Mahinmi are all looked to by Scott Brooks to contribute. Washington is 11th in field goal percentage as the team shoots a collective 46.6 percent from the floor. The Wizards are tied for 13th in the league with 11.1 triples a night while ranking 28th in three point shooting. Washington hits just 33.7 percent from downtown this season. Howard is out until late February after having surgery for a buttocks injury November 30, taking away their best rebounder and rim protector. With Wall done for the year after heel surgery, Satoransky is going to have to step up and produce. Morris is out at least six weeks with transient cervical neuropraxia, taking another piece out of the rotation.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Washington picked up the win over the Bucks but beating a team that is minus their franchise player doesn’t impress as much has had they won with Antetokounmpo on the floor. The Wizards are going to face a tough one here as the Raptors are clicking right now. Toronto hasn’t been great on the road this season but they have a world of momentum going into this one. Look for the Raptors to come up with the victory in this contest.

Prediction: Toronto Raptors -6.5

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Toronto has an extremely deep rotation to work with, even with Valanciunas missing for the time being. The Raptors are fighting to maintain their hold on the top spot in the Eastern Conference race. Toronto has overcome adversity this season with injuries knocking guys out of the mix. Washington won back to back games but they are dealing with their own injury issues. Can the Wizards sustain success without Wall and Morris in the mix?

The over is 4-0 in the Raptors’ last 4 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game, 5-1 in their last 6 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game, 5-1 in their last six overall and 4-1 in their last five on the road. Washington has seen the over go 4-0 in their last four against the Atlantic Division. This one goes over the number, thanks to Toronto’s offense and Washington’s lack of defense.

Prediction: Over 227.5

Half-Time Side Pick
Rating:

Toronto’s quality depth and their ability to shoot the ball well this season is going to be tough for Washington to matchup. While Satoransky has been solid enough stepping up early on with Wall missing, he has to sustain that success. Washington’s bench has been thinned with their injury woes and that’s going to be an issue. Toronto has been good this season and they have the weapons to make life tough for most teams. The Raptors should have the upper hand at the half here.

Prediction: Toronto Raptors -3

Half-Time Total Bet
Rating:

Toronto can put up a ton of points, as we saw with their win over the Nets. Brooklyn had been on a roll of late before getting derailed by the Raptors. Washington took down Milwaukee at home Friday night but the fact that they did that against a Bucks team without Antetokounmpo dulls the shine a bit. Washington still gave up 106 points in that game without him seeing the floor. The Wizards don’t have the pieces to keep up in this one. Look for Toronto to cover the line at the half.

Prediction: Over 116
