The Houston Rockets will travel to the Golden 1 Center on Friday evening for a Western Conference showdown against the Sacramento Kings.

The Rockets have dropped 11 of their last 13 games but are fresh off of an impressive win on the road in San Antonio. Houston comes in with a 12-31 overall record in 43 games, good for the third-worst record in the NBA. Meanwhile, the Kings are 17-27 in 44 games this season, which ranks as the eighth-worst record in the league.

Can Houston continue its road trip with another win on the road in Sacramento on Friday night?

Gordon helps Rockets get back on winning track vs. San Antonio

Eric Gordon scored 32 points to help Houston snap a three-game skid with a 128-124 victory on the road against the Spurs on Wednesday night. Christian Wood added 23 points and 11 rebounds while Kevin Porter Jr. chipped in 18 points for the Rockets in the win. Houston shot just 22-of-32 from the charity stripe but knocked down 16-of-36 from beyond the arc on the night.

While it doesn’t look like the Rockets will ever be able to move on from John Wall’s contract, Houston could still be busy at this year’s trade deadline. A heady veteran with the ability to generate offense and defend multiple positions, Gordon is one of the names expected to draw attention at the trade deadline. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Cleveland Cavaliers are among the teams expected to be interested in Gordon’s services. The 33-year-old comes in averaging 14.8 points per game on 50 percent shooting from a field and 45.2 percent shooting from 3-point range.

According to dunksandthrees.com, the Rockets sport an adjusted -8.5 offensive rating, which ranks 28th in the NBA. Houston also owns an adjusted 107.4 offensive rating, 26th in the NBA, along with a league-worst 115.9 adjusted rating on the defensive end of the floor.

Kings snap slide with home win vs. Lakers

Sacramento escaped with a 125-116 victory at home over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. De’Aaron Fox finished with a team-high 29 points while Chimeze Metu nailed a clutch 3-pointer with 46.7 seconds left to help the Kings end their longest losing streak of the season.

The Kings are among the teams that could be busy at the NBA Trade Deadline. According to NBA pundit Bill Simmons, the Kings are the only team that can put together a viable deal with the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris. In Simmons’ proposed deal, the Kings would part ways with Buddy Hield, Tyrese Haliburton, and forward Harrison Barnes.

According to dunksandthrees.com, the Kings sport an adjusted -3.8 net rating through 55 games, which rank 25th in the NBA. Sacramento has posted an adjusted 10.8 offensive rating, 18th in the league, but it ranks 27th with an adjusted 113.5 defensive rating so far this year.

Rating:

The Kings come into this game favored by five points at home but that number might be set a bit too high here. Despite being fresh off of an emotional win over the Lakers, Sacramento hasn’t exactly played its best basketball of the season of late. The Kings had lost five in a row prior to Wednesday’s win while the Rockets have quietly gone 2-3 over their previous five contests. With Gordon playing well and Houston back at full strength, take the Rockets to cover the spread on the road on Friday night.

Prediction: Houston Rockets +5

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

Not only has Houston been the NBA’s worst defensive team but the Rockets also like the push the pace on the offensive end, where they rank No. 2 in tempo and ninth in average possession length so far this season. Meanwhile, the Kings also haven’t been shy about getting up shots early in the shot clock. Sacramento ranks ninth in the NBA in pace and third in average possession length on offense, which bodes well for a high-scoring game here. Take this matchup to go over the projected total in Sacramento on Friday night.
