Denver Nuggets (2-3 SU, 1-4 ATS, 0-5 O/U) vs. New York Knicks (1-3 SU, 1-3 ATS, 1-3 O/U)

NBA: Monday, October 30, 2017, Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, 7:30 pm ET

Spread: Denver -4, Over/Under: 208

It’s an inter-conference clash in the Big Apple between teams looking for better days. The Denver Nuggets are on the road again as they face the New York Knicks Monday night. Denver was in action Sunday night as they faced the Nets on the road in a different borough of New York City. New York picked up their first win of the season Friday night as they dumped the Nets 107-86 at home. The Knicks hold a slim 43-42 edge in the all-time series between the teams but the Nuggets have taken five straight matchups, including both meetings last year.

Denver Nuggets Close Out Road Trip

Denver was on the road on Sunday night in the Barclays Center to face the Nets in an effort to get to the .500 mark on the year. The Nuggets close a four game road swing against Eastern Conference foes here against the Knicks. Denver entered Sunday 11th in the Western Conference standings, 2.5 games behind the Clippers for the top spot. The Nuggets were 1.5 games behind the Trail Blazers in the Northwest Division race. Denver was 1-1 at home and 1-2 on the road this season. The Nuggets have gone 1-1 against the Western Conference, 1-2 against the East and 0-1 in division play so far this season.

The Nuggets are 25th in the league in scoring offense with an average of 98.8 points per game. Denver is currently 5th in the league in rebounding with 47.4 rebounds per contest. The Nuggets are 8th in the league by dishing out 23 assists per game. Denver is tied for 10th in scoring defense as they allow 100.8 points per contest. Paul Millsap puts up 15.6 points plus 6.8 rebounds a game to lead Denver on the year. Will Barton contributes 15.4 points a night while Nikola Jokic kicks in 14.4 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists a game. Gary Harris (13.8 points) and Emmanuel Mudiay (10.2 points) each are contributing offensively as well. Kenneth Faried, Wilson Chandler, Jamal Murray, Mason Plumlee and Trey Lyles all have to step up when called upon. The Nuggets are currently tied for 16th in the league in field goal percentage by shooting 44.3 percent from the field. Denver is 23rd in the league by sinking 8.6 threes per game and is 22nd in the league in three point shooting by sinking 32.8 percent from beyond the arc.

New York Knicks Seek Second Straight Win

New York started the season 0-3 and there were rumors that Jeff Hornacek might have been coaching for his job Friday night. As it turned out, the Knicks played their best game of the season and delivered a win for the city as they won the crosstown battle with the Nets. New York trailed by five after the opening quarter but took control as they outscored Brooklyn 60-38 in the middle two quarters to take command in the game. The Knicks shot 44.9 percent from the floor, went 9 of 27 from three point range and dominated the boards by a 55-34 margin. Kristaps Porzingis had 30 points plus nine rebounds to lead New York in the win.

The Knicks are 28th in the league in scoring as they average 96.8 points per game. New York is 14th in the league in rebounding with 44.5 boards per contest while standing 27th with 19.5 assists per game. The Knicks are 14th in scoring defense as they allow 103 points per game. Kristaps Porzingis averages 26.5 points and 8.5 boards a night to lead the team. Enes Kanter chips in 13.8 points plus 10.5 rebounds per night, Tim Hardaway Jr. adds 9.8 points a contest while Kyle O’Quinn chips in 6.8 points plus 7.8 rebounds per contest. Ramon Sessions, Courtney Lee, Doug McDermott, Ron Baker and rookie Frank Ntilikina have to contribute for the Knicks to have any success. The Knicks are tied for 22nd in field goal percentage as they shoot 43.4 percent as a team. New York is 29th with 6.3 threes per game while ranking 30th in three point shooting as they hit 26.9 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Trends:

Denver

  • Nuggets are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest
  • Nuggets are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 Monday games
  • Nuggets are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. NBA Atlantic

New York

  • Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. NBA Northwest

New York may have picked up their first win over the Nets but the fact remains that they have a lot to work on if they hope to be a contender for anything other than a high draft pick. Denver is sputtering offensively and they’re playing their second game of a back to back here as they close a road trip. The Nuggets still are a solid team that is just working through some growing pains of fitting pieces together. Denver has enough talent to knock off the struggling Knicks, who have to develop other scoring options besides Porzingis.

Pick: Denver Nuggets -4
