Coach Doc Rivers hosts his former employer as the Los Angeles Clippers host the Boston Celtics Wednesday night. This is a great early season match up between two teams that are considered among the best in their respective conferences. The Celtics are 11-2 and own the best record in the East while the Clippers are 9-5, which is third-best in the West. The Clippers have won the last 3 head-to-head versus the Celtics, including a two-game sweep last year. Tipoff is at 10:00 p.m. ET Wednesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Celtics topple SunsThe Boston Celtics own the best record in the NBA at 11-2. Going into the season, there was some question about how good the Celtics would be, given the loss to free agency of all-stars Al Horford and Kyrie Irving. But they brought back another all-star in Kemba Walker and have seen their young stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown flourish. While Gordon Hayward, who had been great, went down with a hand injury earlier this month, the Celtics didn't seem to miss a beat.
I swear Jayson Tatum got a lot of Paul Pierce in his game.— Kendrick Perkins (@KendrickPerkins) November 16, 2019
They began this road trip with a last-second loss to the Kings where they blew a late 5 point lead, but they bounced back with a win at Phoenix Monday. In the 99-85 win at Phoenix, Tatum had a huge game, scoring 27 points and hauling in 11 rebounds with 3 three-pointers. Walker added 19 points along with 5 assists while Marcus Smart added 17 points. The Celtics shot 41 percent from the floor and 29 percent from 3, making 12 of 41 from deep. They had 12 steals and outrebounded Phoenix 52-45.
Clippers get healthy - sort ofIt was a big boost for the Clippers when they finally got their new superstar, Paul George, on the court. George has played the last three games for his new team and has looked great. But he has yet to play with his fellow superstar free agent, Kawhi Leonard, who has missed the last three games with a contusion. Leonard may play Wednesday against the Celtics or Friday against Houston -- it's still not clear.
Meanwhile, the Clippers are 9-5 and are coming off a 90-88 win against the Thunder on Monday. George had 18 points against his former team, but the big story was Montrezl Harrell, who had 28 points and 12 rebounds. Ivica Zubac had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Former Clippers Chris Paul and Danilo Gallinari led the Thunder with 22 and 14 points, respectively.
