A pair of Western Conference teams take the floor in the Sooner State looking to pick up a victory. The Portland Trail Blazers are on the road as they make the trip to face the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday night. Portland was edged 102-101 on the road by Dallas Sunday afternoon. Oklahoma City comes in off a 117-112 road win over Houston in their last contest Saturday night. The Thunder has a 118-116 advantage in the all-time regular-season series between the teams. This season, Oklahoma City has won two straight meetings, including a 123-114 home win in the last matchup on January 22.

Portland Trail Blazers Looking to Pick Up Road Win, Close Back to Back

Portland let a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter slip away to end up with a one-point defeat to the Mavericks. The Trail Blazers went into Sunday night fourth in the Western Conference, 6.5 games behind the Warriors for the top spot: they trailed the Nuggets by four games in the Northwest Division. Portland was up 10 at the half, by 14 after three quarters and led 96-81 with 10:43 to play in the game. The Trail Blazers were outscored 21-5 the rest of the way to end up with the loss. Portland shot 48.8 percent from the field, including nine of 29 from three-point range, and turned the ball over 19 times, negating a 48-39 edge on the glass. Damian Lillard led the Trail Blazers with 30 points and five assists in the defeat.

The Trail Blazers come into this one 9th in the league in scoring with 113.1 points per game. The Trail Blazers are 3rd in the league in rebounding as they collect 47.6 boards a night. Portland is 24th in the league in assists with 22.9 per contest. The Trail Blazers are average defensively as they come in 13th in the league by allowing 110.2 points a night. Damian Lillard is leading the team in scoring for the Blazers as he puts up 26.1 points per game while dishing out 6.4 assists per contest. CJ McCollum (21.4 points) and Maurice Harkless are both veteran options for the Blazers. Al-Farouq Aminu (9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds), Jusuf Nurkic (15.2 points, 10.2 rebounds), Meyers Leonard, Rodney Hood (12.2 points) and Evan Turner all contribute solidly on the offensive end for Portland’s attack. Zach Collins, Seth Curry, Jake Layman and Caleb Swanigan have to take a step forward this season. Portland is tied for 13th in the league in field goal percentage by shooting 46.5 percent from the floor. The Trail Blazers are knocking down 11.1 three pointers a night, which is 16th in the league, while ranking 7th in the league by shooting 36.2 percent from downtown.

Oklahoma City Thunder Trying to Catch Denver in Northwest Division

Oklahoma City won their third straight and their 10th in the last 11 games as they took down the Rockets Saturday night. The Thunder entered Sunday third in the Western Conference, 3.5 games behind the Warriors for the top spot: they were one game behind the Nuggets in the Northwest Division. Oklahoma City trailed by three after the opening quarter, by 26 with 1:38 to play in the first half and by 22 at the half. The Thunder battled back to tie the game after three quarters before outscoring the Rockets 27-22 in the final stanza to earn the win. Oklahoma City shot 44.9 percent from the field, including 13 of 34 from three-point range, and controlled the glass 53-39 to offset 19 turnovers. Paul George led the Thunder with 45 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

The Thunder is above average offensively this season as they are 5th with an average of 115.2 points per game. Oklahoma City is 2nd in the league in rebounding with 48 boards per contest. The Thunder is 22nd in assists with 23.3 per game. Oklahoma City is 12th in the league in scoring defense as they allowed 109.8 points a night. Russell Westbrook is second on the team as he puts up 21.2 points, 11.1 rebounds, 11.2 assists and 2.26 steals per game. Paul George adds 28.3 points plus 7.9 boards and 2.31 steals a contest in his second year with the team. Jerian Grant (13.1 points, 5.1 rebounds), Nerlens Noel, Terrance Ferguson, Andre Roberson, Raymond Felton and Patrick Patterson have to make their presence known on both ends. Roberson is still out after rupturing his patellar tendon on January 27, 2018. He suffered a setback and will be out indefinitely. Oklahoma City is 15th in the league in field goal percentage as the team shoots 46.2 percent from the floor. The Thunder is 19th with 10.8 made threes per game and stand tied for 12th in three-point shooting at 35.3 percent.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

This one is going to be an interesting contest for certain. The second and third-place teams in the Northwest Division lock up in this one. Oklahoma City had Sunday off and played at home Saturday night. On the flip side, Portland was knocked off by Dallas on the road Sunday and then had to fly their way in for this contest. The Trail Blazers have better depth but the combination of George and Westbrook, who tied an NBA-record with nine straight triple-doubles, is too much for a fatigued Portland team. Look for the Thunder to come up with the win in this contest, especially playing at home.

Prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder -6.5

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Portland is playing their second game of a back to back here and their third in the last five days. The Trail Blazers have been putting plenty of points of late but they were slowed down the stretch by the Mavericks. Oklahoma City has been firing on all cylinders led by George and Westbrook: they need to get more production from other guys in the mix. Letting Abrines go was unfortunate as it took a perimeter shooting option out of the mix in the bench group. Can the Thunder find some secondary options to help ease the pressure on their stars?

The over is 6-0 in the Trail Blazers’ last 6 overall, 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Western Conference foes and 6-2 in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Oklahoma City has seen the over go 4-0 in their last 4 Monday games, 9-3 in their last 12 games playing on 1 day of rest, 12-4 in their last 16 overall and 18-6 in their last 24 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. With the way both offenses are clicking right now, this one ends up over the number.

Prediction: 231

Half-Time Side Pick
Rating:

We’ve got big name firepower on both sides of the floor in this one. The power trios in this one are tremendous with Lillard, McCollum and Nurkic on the floor for Portland against the Thunder’s triumvirate of George, Westbrook and Adams. While Portland does have a bit of an edge with their bench depth, the Thunder knows how to work with the pieces they have in their rotation. With the Trail Blazers being a bit gassed in this one, Oklahoma City gets the edge at the half.

Prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder

Half-Time Total Bet
Rating:

We know both teams can put up the points on the offensive end of the floor. On the flip side, both sides have had their share of struggles on the defensive end of the floor. The Thunder rallied from 26 down in the first half to come up with the win over the Rockets as they tightened up defensively. That defensive production didn’t come until the second half of the contest. Portland was in a couple high scoring affairs before their meltdown against Dallas on the road. This one ends up over the number at the half.
