When and where: March 15, 2019, AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX, 8:30 PM ET

The New York Knicks hope to end a seven-game losing streak when they go on the road on Friday to take on the San Antonio Spurs. Since snapping their three-game losing streak, the Spurs have gone on to win six straight games and move into the No. 6 spot in the Western Conference Standings. They are coming off a win over the Dallas Mavericks, while the Knicks were recently defeated on the road by the Indiana Pacers.

Mudiay nearly propels Knicks to an upset

The Knicks could have given up against the Pacers on Tuesday night.

It was a road game against a playoff-contending team, and the Knicks were down by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter. Yet, instead of rolling over, they showed some fight with a breakout game from Emmanuel Mudiay, who came off the bench for 21 points, four rebounds and four assists. He also knocked down 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc.

“It’s tough but we understand what got us there,” Knicks head coach David Fizdale said after the game, per ESPN.com. “Right now, it’s the turnovers that really got us. It’s been three games in a row with us up at the 20 mark.”

The Knicks have bigger issues than turnovers, and it all starts at the top with troubled owner James Dolan. It’s a culture issue with the Knicks right now, and they’ll continue to struggle unless something is finally done internally.

However, on the court, Fizdale was absolutely spot on about the turnovers. They turned the ball over 19 times, which the Pacers turned into an extra 17 points. Damyean Dotson had 18 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Kevin Knox finished with 16 points and four rebounds.

Spurs get their sixth-straight win

The turnaround run continued for the Spurs in Tuesday night’s win over the Mavericks. Granted, Mavericks star forward Luka Doncic wasn’t 100 percent and the Mavericks are currently in rebuild mode. That still doesn’t take away from the fact that the Spurs have beaten four playoff-contending teams in their six-game run, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder.

“It’s a challenge to understand and figure out how to pull these games out because they’re just as important as any other game,” Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan said after a 112-105 win over the Mavericks, per ESPN.com. “Going into playoffs, you’ve got to have that type of mentality of being resilient.”

The Spurs were incredibly efficient on the floor, shooting for a combined 52.4 percent and going 18-of-18 from the free throw line. They also forced the Mavericks into 14 turnovers and held Doncic to 12 points on offense.

DeRozan finished with a team-high 33 points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals, while LaMarcus Aldridge chalked up 28 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

The Knicks have only won seven games outside of Madison Square Garden all season, and now, they’ll be tasked with going on the road to take on one of the hottest teams in basketball right now. They clearly lack the personnel and discipline to hang with a playoff contender like the Spurs on the road.

The blame for the current state of the Knicks should be placed squarely on Dolan’s shoulders. It has been a circus ever since he took over the franchise in 1999. In all those years, the prestigious Knicks franchise has only made it to one conference final, and that occurred within Dolan’s first year with the team when the recipe for success was still in place.

There are no playoffs in the Knicks’ future. They’ll get crushed on Friday by the superior team in San Antonio, leaving the talking heads to continue discussing if they’d be better off without Dolan as an owner. They are only averaging 94.7 points per game in their last three outings, and they are the fifth-worst team in the league in defensive efficiency.

The Spurs will roll to their seventh consecutive win with ease.

Prediction: San Antonio Spurs (-13)

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

The under is 4-1 in the Spurs’ last five games played at home and 4-0 in the Knicks’ last four against Western Conference opponents. There aren’t many reasons to have faith in a Knicks team averaging less than 100 points per game in recent outings. The Spurs are also only allowing 106.5 points per game to opponents at the AT&T Center. Take the under in this game.

Prediction: Under (216.5)
