Sacramento hosts Atlanta at the Golden 1 Center on Thursday night. Both teams are closer to the bottom of their respective conferences than having any chance at the postseason. The Hawks are tied with the Magic at the bottom of the East heading into Wednesday’s action. The Kings have dropped four of their last six games.
Schroder grabs 41 points to help upset the Jazz
Atlanta finally broke another losing streak, this time skating at six total defeats, with a win over Utah on Tuesday, 99-94. They’ve won their last few games against the spread, facing opposition both times as double-digit underdogs. It certainly made sense in Utah, where the Jazz have been strong at home, but they never found their footing as the Hawks eventually pulled away 36-27 in the final quarter.
The Hawks hit 40.4 percent from the field and converted a rather paltry 9-for-33 from downtown, but it was better than the Jazz’s conversion rate, making just 6-of-34. Dennis Schroder (19.5 ppg) broke the 40-point plateau on 16-of-38 shooting. To pad the box score, he added seven assists to two turnovers and collected five rebounds. Schroder had been held below his average (18 or less points) for five straight games he appeared in.
Hield steps up in recent action, but Kings suffer bad loss against Pistons
Sacramento’s defense hasn’t been as terrible as their opposition’s in the past five games, but they are still being outscored by 3.6 points on average in the same stretch. It made sense that they were four-point underdogs against Detroit, but that blossomed into a stunning 106-90 defeat at home. The Pistons outscored the Kings by that 16-point difference in the second half after a tie ball game at halftime.
The Kings only had a lead of three points near the beginning of the game and couldn’t take advantage of a 21-8 edge in fastbreak points. They hit just 26.1 percent of their 3-pointers (6-for-23). Buddy Hield (13.1 ppg) led the team with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. He’s really stepped up his scoring lately, posting 20 or more points in four consecutive games. Bogdan Bogdanovic is questionable after missing Monday’s game with hamstring issues.
- 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 against Pacific teams
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 1 day of rest
- 8-1 ATS in their last 9 against Eastern Conference
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games
Atlanta has seen some great action from John Collins lately (15.3 ppg in last four), but he’s dealing with an ankle issue and is questionable. With or without him, the Hawks have been miserable against the spread when they’re not double-digit underdogs lately.
