Houston Rockets (15-44) vs. Denver Nuggets (38-20)

The Houston Rockets will be looking to end a potential three-game skid when they take on the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. Houston battles the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday evening, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that contest. Denver is coming off a 106-105 victory over Portland on Wednesday. They also play on Friday night, taking on Golden State, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that contest.

Denver has beaten Houston the last three times these teams have met, including a 128-99 victory back on April 16. These teams are 5-5 in the last 10 meetings with one another.

Wood leads the team in scoring at 20.9 points per game and is the leading rebounder at 9.3 per contest. Wall is having a solid season at 20.4 points and 6.7 assists per game. Eric Gordon (17.8 ppg) will be out for this contest. Kevin Porter (15.5 ppg) will also be out.

No line had been set for this game prior to this preview being written. There is no doubt that Denver is the better team, even with Murray out. The Nuggets are battling for a top-four spot in the Western Conference, and this is the kind of game that they absolutely must win if they are going to earn a home-field advantage against the Los Angeles Lakers. While not wanting to face Los Angeles for sure in the first round, it is much better to do so on your own home court, so the Nuggets must win here.

Houston played very well against the Clippers on Friday but still came away with a loss. Unfortunately, they are going to lose this game as well.

Prediction: Denver Nuggets -13,5

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

The total has not been set for this contest. The Rockets have been handled by Denver over the last couple of seasons, losing the last three games by at least seven points. That includes a 29-point loss just a week ago.

While I think Houston is not going to be blown out like that, they still do not match up well against the Nuggets. This team is not deep enough to be able to sustain continual pressure against a very fast and resilient Nuggets team. This contest may be close up until the half, but it will be a decisive victory for Denver.

Take Denver to win, 122-107.
